Hearing and Vision Screening
Science Fair
LES will host its Annual Science Fair on Thursday, March 19. It is mandatory for students in grades 3-5. Family visits to view projects will be on March 19 from 4-5 pm. Class visits will take place on March 20. Check out this link for many online resources.
FCPS will host the 39th Annual Science and Engineering Fairs and 7th Annual Elementary Social Studies Fair on Saturday, March 28 at Tuscarora High School. Registration is OPEN until Monday, March 23 for elementary students entering projects.
Counselor News
LES was able to raise $76 to donate to SHIP (Student Homelessness Initiative Partnership of Frederick County) with the sales of Valentine Grams. Staff members were thrilled to get a special note and office supply from students. Thank you for your support!
Kindness Week was a great success! Students and Staff dressed for Kindness each day of the week. Hospice Hug Notes were completed by students to give some cheer to sick individuals and their families. Safety Patrol greeted students in the morning with welcoming signs made by our Peer Mentors. Special announcements were also shared each morning about how we can do our best to be kind to others. What a fantastic week to spread Kindness!

Community Food and Clothing Giveaway, Thursday March 5, 2020, Thurmont Middle School Cafeteria from 4:00 to 5:30 pm. Please park in the back parking lot by the gym. Please bring your own bags for food and clothing. HOSTED BY: THURMONT MIDDLE SCHOOL AND THE MARYLAND FOOD BANK.
WDSD is Saturday, March 21. We invite school communities to wear fun socks on Friday, March 20 to show support for World Down Syndrome Day and to share observances on social media using the hashtags @WDSDatFCPS and #LotsOfSocks.

Magnet Applications for Grades 2-4 are open until February 28th!
Magnet applications for the 2020-2021 school year are now being accepted for students in Grades 2, 3 and 4. Additional Information and online applications may be found at: https://www.fcps.org/academics/elemmagnetprg Completed magnet program applications are due, Friday, February 28, 2020, to allow schools time to administer necessary assessments and process other paperwork.

Eligibility: Open to Pre-K through Grade 12 full-time teachers for schools in the Catoctin feeder school system: Catoctin, Thurmont Primary, Thurmont Elementary, Thurmont Middle, Lewistown, Emmitsburg, Sabillasville and Mother Seton School.
Due Date: No later than Tuesday March 31

Out of District Transfers
Parents and guardians must renew out-of-district transfers for students every year. Parents or guardians who wish to request an out-of-district transfer must apply by completing the appropriate form, online at www.fcps.org in the section labeled For Families and Students, through March 1, 2020. Those seeking to renew a request approved for the current school year must re-apply online, also by March 1, 2020.
FCPS will restrict out-of-district transfers at 32 schools in the 2020-2021 school year, in accordance with FCPS Regulation 400-78. Based on enrollment projections, Lewistown will be at or near 100% capacity when schools open in August 2020. Consequently, their enrollment is limited only to those students who reside within each school's attendance area.
