A Peek at Our Week
Writing: This week, we finished up our work as review writers. Students are experts at stating their opinion and giving reasons for their opinion! Next week, our young writers will become poets! We will begin a short writing unit on poetry. Students will learn that not all poems rhyme, but some do. We will explore some famous poets such as Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky.
Math: This week, we wrapped up Module 4 and students took the end of Module 4 assessment. We then began Module 5, which focuses on geometry for the first part of the module, then telling time to the hour and half hour for the second part. We learned about open and closed shapes, straight sides, and corners. We will use pattern blocks to make composite shapes.
Word Study: This week, we worked with long i using the final y (our Secret Story is all about the Sneaky Y) and igh. Students know that English words do not end with an <i> so we have to use a <y> We worked with words such as fly, sky, try, etc. We also worked with <igh> in words such as night, light, flight, etc.
