Intruder/Lockdown drill
We will complete this drill as a school on Thursday, March 21 in the afternoon.
For those of you that sat through the training, the information below is a review. If you did not come to the training last Friday, I will be teaching this (in a student friendly way) during morning huddle next week. The goal is not to scare our students. Our goal is to inform them on what we would do and practice this as a school.
As far as the drill, HPD is not going to be involved. I will approach the door. The office staff will notice the immediate danger and push the button which has a verbal alert on the intercome (it will last 45 seconds). At this time, all staff follows the lockdown protocol as follows -
Hide - If you are able to be in locked room - do so. Quickly check the hallway near your door and get it shut. Lock the doors, cover the window, push tables up to the doors and hide. Remember that we want to teach our students to spread out in the classroom and not be seen. Make sure no one is in line with the door and students are quiet. Teach children that if they are in the hallway or the bathroom - they run to the nearest door and listen to that adult. If you are not in a room that can be locked, try to get to one quickly and if not - you hide. This might be in a closet, in the bathroom with your feet up - just hide and be quiet.
Run - If you are outside - you run away from the building. Do not enter the building.
Fight - If you are unable to be in a locked room and you are not able to hide, you prepare yourself to fight with whatever is around you.
Remember - you do not open the classroom door for any reason during a lockdown. We know we are having a drill on Thursday, so I will come over the intercom on Thursday to end out drill and give feedback.

The AM sessions are district level - most are at Graber. If you are unsure where you are going, email Kevin Stucky.
Please meet in the library at 12:45 for a short meeting. The rest of the afternoon will be "application time" for your new learning.

Hand Washing - Note from School Nurses
Hi All,
We are seeing an increase in illness in the building, and want to take extra precautions for prevention. You could use the wipes that are on the computer carts in between each student and these can be used on door knobs, desks, etc.
Another way to prevent the spread of germs, is to have everyone wash their hands extra.
****Please consider having all students and adults wash upon arrival to school, again 2 hours later, and again 2 hours later.
Hand washing is the first line of prevention and benefits everyone.
It may take a few minutes out of instruction to stop and have everyone wash their hands but it will help prevent the spread of germs.
As teachers - I trust your professional judgement on how you want to handle this. We have had a good number of students out and hopefully we are on the tail-end of the illnesses.
