Injustice Towards Women
Women's Rights
The behavior of the women of these times does support the ideal that men believed they were superior and there for would force there way upon women.
Antigone
"We cannot fight with men...The law is strong, we must give in to the law...I must yield to those in authority."
The Yellow Wallpaper
"John does not know how much i really suffer. He knows there is no reason to suffer, and that satisfies him."
The Story of an Hour
"There would be no powerful will bending hers in that blind persistence with which men and women believe they have the right to impose a private will upon a fellow creature"
The ideal that man is mightier than woman is expressed here. Which supports that men believe that they are far superior to women. Which , in their minds, allows them to treat women however they want.
On Women's Rights to Vote
"The only question left to be settled now is: Are women persons."
On Women's Rights to Vote
"To them this government is not a democracy. It is not a republic. It is an odious aristocracy; a hateful oligarchy of sex..."
Antigone
"You may do as you like Since apparently the laws of the gods mean nothing to you. They mean a great deal to me, but I have no strength to break laws that were made for the public good."
Women are being treated as if they weren't people. It is seen everywhere from local interactions all the way to actions taken by the government. They are basically being treated as a house pet that must be taken care of to survive.
Antigone
"You, there, take them away and guard them well: For they are but women, and even brave men run when they see Death coming."
The Story of an Hour
"She did not hear the story as many women have heard the same, with a paralyzed inability to accept its significance.
On Women's Rights to Vote
"It was we, the people; not we, the white male citizens; nor yet we, the male citizens; but we the whole people, who formed the Union."
Women were seen as fragile and incapable of handling bad things. It was believed that they needed the protection of man if they were to make it in the world. Not even being recognized as a person.
