Reid Elementary News
March 2024
Hello Reid Families,
Please be sure to check your teacher’s emails and the PTO website for upcoming events and news.
Dressing for the weather is very important. Please be sure to send your child to school with what they would need for a day indoors or outside on the playground. During the spring, Michigan's weather can start out cold but then get warm and vice versa. Dressing in layers is probably best for this time of year. We would appreciate if you could send an extra pair of shoes for outdoor play. Our playground can get pretty soggy in the springtime. When students have an extra pair of shoes to change into after recess, it helps keep the mud from traveling inside our classrooms. Thank you for your help with this.
Your input matters to our school and district. We are asking you to complete the linked survey. Your input provides us with valuable information that assists in developing and monitoring the progress of our building and district-level school improvement plans. Thank you for your input.
We encourage anyone who would like to speak with a teacher or building administration to call or email to make an appointment. Just as a doctor or other professional practice, teachers and administrators have filled days and we may not be able to see walk in demands. This appointment practice helps to alieviate frustration and makes for a more productive conversation.
I look forward to being back in my office on March 7th. If you need to get in contact with somoene in the office, please feel free to call the school at 810-591-7121 or email Ms. Jill at jcampbel@gbcs.org or Mrs. Pratt at kpratt@gbcs.org. They will be sure to get your message to Mr. Keilitz, the acting principal that is in the building during my absence.
Thank you for all you do to support your child, our staff, and our school.
Educationally yours,
Jamie Wagner
Principal

Vaping
Why are kids trying it?
Good kids vape, too. Peer pressure and managing stress are some of the main reasons that kids start vaping, even "high-achievers". As kids learn about how it makes them feel, they become addicted and use it to cope with stress, anxiety or social situations. Some other reasons kids experiment with e-cigarettes include: Rebelliousness/independence, Misinformation Social media influence, Close family or friend influence, Smoke tricks, or interest in marijuana
What Is Behind The Epidemic? How many kids are vaping?
10% of U.S. high-school students and 4.6% of middle schoolers currently vape as of 2022. E-cigarettes have created a new trend of nicotine addiction among American teens. The FDA and U.S. Surgeon General have declared it an epidemic
Get The Facts About Vaping
Research shows that vaping is dangerous, highly addictive and harmful to a child’s health and brain development. And like other addictions, it’s easier for kids to never start than try to stop. Get the facts, so you can have a conversation with your child.
