Toys for Tots Toy Grade Level Challenge!
The MISD Toys for Tots Event is Wednesday, December 4th, and we will be collecting toys from November 12 - December 3. The competition will be between the 5th and the 6th graders to see which grade level can collect the most toys! We will be keeping a running tally on which grade level is ahead each afternoon.
We will have Toy Collection Bins marked by grade level in the front office and front entryway. Students can either bring toys to you and/or bring them directly to the office.
The grade level who wins the Elf Challenge will receive the following:
- Holiday Flair for their TOGO lanyard
- A day to sit wherever they want in the cafeteria during lunch
- An extra long grade-level recess where the entire grade level is outside together
6th Grade Field Trip to Casa Manana Theater
On Thursday, February 4, our 6th grade students will be going to see the science fiction drama, “Frank and Friends," at the Casa Manana Theater in Fort Worth. All 3 forms below and the $10.00 to cover your child’s admission into the venue and transportation must be submitted in order for your child to attend the field trip.
You have 1 more payment option:
- You may pay by cash or check no later than Thursday, November 21st. Please make sure to make checks payable to “Della Icenhower Intermediate” or “DIIS”.
Students will be eating lunch at Trinity Park located near the theater after the play. They have the option to either bring their lunch or order a sack lunch from the cafeteria.

Attention Parents - Lunch Deliveries!
Parents are more than welcome to drop off their child’s lunch for them to come and get in the office, however, we WILL NOT be interrupting any CORE class for him/her to come get the lunch.
From this point forward, students will be called down during their WIN Time to come get their lunch that has been dropped off in the front office (this is 3rd period for 6th grade; 4rd period for 5th grade).
Important Reminders about Attendance!
Excused absences notices must be in the following format to be accepted:
- Must be a Parent Note, Dr. Note, Email, etc.

We WILL NOT go back and Excuse them after that grading period has ended!

The money that PTA raises in dues and fundraisers goes to fund our socials, Dog Dollar Store, Science Night and Teacher Appreciation Treats. Money coming back to the school will be used to purchase new PE weight room equipment, bookshelves for our classroom libraries, and more!
Friendly reminder about students arriving before 8:00 AM
Icenhower staff begins their duty day at 8:00 AM. Students who are dropped off before 8:00 AM will not be supervised.
The school day ends at 4:00 PM. Please make sure your student is picked up in a timely manner.
School-Wide Reading Initiative Continues!
This will be Icenhower's 2nd year implementing our School-Wide Reading Initiative where all student will be required to read a certain amount of books from several genres for the school year (more information to come from your child's Language Arts teachers)! All staff members also join in on this challenge (including our administrative team)!
Our teachers will continue to build their classroom libraries to give students and staff a wide variety of books to choose from, and any books you no longer use would be greatly appreciated!
You can drop off your donated books in either the front office or give them to your child's Language Arts teacher!
No Messages will be delivered after 3:00 PM
We understand that emergency situations can come up, and those will be handled accordingly.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Please follow the arrival and dismissal procedures as explained below. Parent drop off and pick WILL BE in the front, and these procedures MUST be followed to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Everything will go much smoother if everyone follows the correct procedures!
