AEHS Weekly Newsletter
February 25, 2024
Good evening, Titans!
As a reminder, Friday, March 1, is an early release day. The early release day is to give teachers an opportunity to grade and enter grades in the grade book. What this also means is that Interim grades are due for students, and that we are at the halfway mark for marking period three. Please ensure your student is working with their teachers to submit any missing work by the end of the week.
As you might know, MCPS is administering our annual climate survey. In the Five Things You Need to Know you will find the language below:
"We want to hear from you on how we are doing. MCPS is inviting ALL students, staff and parents/caregivers to share your experiences and thoughts on academics, communication, and overall satisfaction with your school and the district and/or experience working at MCPS. Your input and insight is essential in helping us understand what is working well and areas of improvement. Your participation and any identifying information is completely confidential. The feedback collected will be used to inform decisions and help create a more supportive and enriching environment for students, staff, and families in our district."
Click here to access more information about the surveys
Please take a moment to complete this survey as your voice and your input matters and we truly want to hear from you!
Have a great week!

Asynchronous Learning Day Monday April 22 (NEW)
Dear MCPS Families,
This message is to inform you that Monday, April 22 will shift to an asynchronous learning day for all students. The day is designated as a professional development day for teachers and possible make-up day for students in the 2023-2024 Traditional School Year Calendar. Students will engage in learning experiences and complete work asynchronously.
Asynchronous learning allows for flexibility for students to complete assignments with or without the use of technology. Additional time for students to complete assignments is granted for challenges or unforeseen circumstances.
District leaders and central services staff have been planning and communicating with school leaders in preparation for the asynchronous learning day on April 22. Schools will share more details about their asynchronous virtual instruction plans with students and families in mid-March, including directions on how to access resources and additional services.
This day will remain a professional learning day for teachers who will participate in self-directed learning and planning. Telework will be permitted. In addition, teachers will have time to engage in the asynchronous professional learning module with a focus on the Equitable Teaching and Learning Framework. More information will be provided to staff in the upcoming weeks.
There have been three inclement weather school closures so far in the 2023-2024 school year—Jan. 16, Jan. 17 and Jan. 19. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) provides the ability to repurpose certain days as virtual school days, including inclement weather days and staff professional learning days. MCPS has a built-in contingency plan that allows for two emergency school closures needed to make up the third emergency school closure day.
*Note: The calendar for the Innovative Schools, Arcola and Roscoe R. Nix elementary schools, does not change for Monday, April 22, 2024. It remains a non-instructional day for students and a professional learning day for teaching staff.

Help AEHS Instrumental Music and Choral Students Attend the Spring Trip to Quantico & Williamsburg!
Hello Titan families!
The AEHS Instrumental Music and Choral students have a great opportunity to perform at the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico and attend music and choral clinics at William & Mary University in Williamsburg in April 2024. Please help students cover the costs of this 3-day trip by making a donation!
This is an incredible opportunity for our AEHS musicians. Travel and other associated costs are not covered by the school, so we need your help. Please consider making a donation to PACE, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible.
If you are supporting a specific student-musician, please check the "Write us a comment" box on the donation form and enter the student's full name in the comment section to ensure your donation will help cover costs for that student. Contributions without a comment will be used to support the entire experience and students who are most in need.
https://donorbox.org/im-choral-2024-spring
Please share with your family, friends and neighbors! Every dollar contributed will help offset the costs of this trip for our hardworking and talented student-musicians.
Thank you!
