February
Our classroom topics for this month:
Kindergarten: Being Adaptable with Friends-
Students will learn the characteristics of a good friend and learn how differences between friends can be good.
Follow up at home- Talk to your kids about what you like about different friends. Explain to them that you like to spend time with different friends for different reasons and that having a variety of interests makes friendships more fun.
1st grade: Adaptability-
Students will learn more about how to use their "buggy" language (It bugs me when_________. I wish you would__________." to be adaptable in friendships.
Follow up at home- Help your student talk about whether a problem is a "small bug", "medium bug" or a "large bug". After determining the size of the "bug", help him/her practice being adaptable by asking what strategy he/she would use (do something to calm down, ignore, ask the person to stop, talk it out, walk away or use his/her buggy language).
2nd Grade: Responsibility
Students will be reminded of what responsibility is and how they can show it.
Follow up at home- Talk to your kids about the benefits of being responsible in your daily lives. Explain to them that doing their chores leaves more room for fun, taking care of their things means they get to have them longer and keeping up with their materials makes their work alot easier.
3rd: Study Skills:
Students learn some study tips and learn how to design a good study environment.
Follow up at home- Ask your student about how a good study environment looks. Help him/her set up a good study area. Ask him/her what is his/her ideal study time (this is one thing we discussed in January).
4th Grade: Best Work
Students will learn how to do their best schoolwork and how it pays off.
Follow up at home- Talk to your kids about some times in your life where you didn't do your best work and it caught up with you. Also talk about some times that your work shined!
5th Grade: Perseverance:
Students learn that even if they have a growth mindset, sometimes things can get hard.
Follow up at home- Ask your student one tip he/she can use if he/she is feeling like giving up when things get really difficult.
