Kinder Cubs Newsletter
Week Nineteen: January 10 - January 14
Hello Kinder Families!
In celebration of the upcoming Dr. Martin Luther King holiday, Kindergarten will study MLK this week. From the first day of school, we have been actively conscious of the importance of creating an inclusive community that celebrates diversity every single school day. Our curriculum and daily discussions revolve around educating our students on the past and present impacts that all races and cultures have had within US history. Although MLK day can be a complex discussion, our team does our best to lead and foster discussions with the children using age-appropriate terminology that they are familiar with from our prior classroom discussions.
We look forward to reading and discussing books by Black authors and about Black protagonists this week while educating our students about MLK's positive impact on history. If you would like to incorporate some of our books into your own home libraries, please click on the links below.
MAP
This week in Kindergarten, we will administer the middle of the year MAP test. All students have reviewed the design of the test in whole and small groups. Preparing students on how to navigate the MAP test enables our Kindergarteners to feel more confident and calm during the testing process.
If your child has headphones at home, we would greatly appreciate if you could send them in for the MAP test. Thank you!

Last but not least, we want to reinforce our mantra of the power of play. Kindergarten is a time of great academic development. It is also a time when children form and solidify connections with their peers, develop social skills, and strengthen their ability to communicate their observations and thoughts. Play is an integral part of our day, as it nurtures social and emotional development.
