Open Session
The Boerne ISD Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting in the BISD Board Room on Monday, December 13th, 2021.
Board Commendations
The Board commended Boerne ISD students and staff, as well as celebrated district-wide honors. Below are some of the honorees.
Orchestra State Qualifier
Boerne High School Sophomore Violinist Sam Igbo earned a place on the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Orchestra.
Sam scored high at the All-State Audition on November 14th and will perform with the All-State Orchestra on February 12th at the TMEA Convention.
In October, Sam earned 1st Chair in Region 29 and was named to the All-Region Orchestra to advance to the State Audition which was held last month.
This past summer, Sam played with the National Youth Orchestra Ensemble at Carnegie Hall in New York City. He was just one of 200 students in the country selected for this incredible opportunity.

VFW Awards
A total of Eight students and teachers earned awards from the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
In the Patriots Pen Essay Contest, Boerne Middle School North 7th-Graders Jackson Olivo and Addison Schuepbach tied for first place and each receive a $100 scholarship, while Voss Middle School 6th-Grader Evan Rafferty took third place and earned a $50 scholarship. The students wrote their 300-400 word essays on the theme “How Can I Be A Good American?”
In the Texas VFW District 13 competition held Thanksgiving Weekend, Addison took first place and earned a $500 scholarship, and Evan took second and earned a $400 scholarship.
In the Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest, Boerne High School Sophomores swept all three awards, with Clarissa Musquiz winning first place and a $200 scholarship, Luke Fox took second and earned a $150 scholarship, and Keira Luevano placed third and won a $100 scholarship. The students recorded their three-to-five minute audio essays on the theme “America: Where Do We Go From Here?”
In the Texas VFW District 13 competition held Thanksgiving Weekend, Clarissa took third place and earned a $300 scholarship.
Two teachers earned Citizenship Teacher Awards, with Voss Middle School’s Dustin Lazenby winning the Middle School Division, and Curington Elementary’s Lindsey Hendrix taking the title in the Elementary School Division.
Both Mr. Lazenby and Coach Hendrix won $500 and a crystal apple from VFW Post 688 as well as a $250 prize at the District 13 competition. Both advance to the state competition.
2021 District Holiday Card
Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary School Fifth-Grader Ella Keagy's design was selected as the official Boerne ISD 2021 Holiday Card. She is the youngest student to ever win the contest.
Every school in Boerne ISD participated in the contest with the district receiving hundreds of submissions. The submissions were narrowed down to 12 finalists, one from each school.
Ella’s design was selected as the district card at the 3rd annual Cookie and Cocoa Staff Appreciation and Toy Drive on December 3rd.
Ella has received cards with her design on them to send to family and friends as well.

Boerne Police Department
The Board gave special recognition to the Boerne Police Department for their assistance during last Thursday’s threat at Champion High School.
We greatly appreciate the support of BPD and thank them for helping keep our students, parents, and staff safe.
2022-23 District Calendar Approved
The Board approved the 2022-23 Academic Calendar.
At the end of November, Boerne ISD released a survey inviting parents, staff, and students to choose between two different options for the 2022-2023 academic calendar. The survey ended December 6 and results showed over 75% of the community preferred Calendar Option 1.
The Boerne ISD Trustees approved that academic calendar at Monday’s board meeting.
Students will start school Wednesday, August 10. The last day of the school year is Thursday, May 25, 2023.

New Academic Courses for 2022-23
The new courses are OnRamps Discovery Pre-Calculus and a Third Year Engineering class for students to complete the Engineering, Design, and Development Pathway.
Water Polo was also approved and will be a UIL Sport beginning in 2022-23.
Purchase of Land
Superintendent's Report
-Our enrollment will continue to increase throughout the school year.
-We have received a lot of positive feedback from our staff regarding the Longevity Stipends that were distributed at Cookies and Cocoa.
