Back to School
Welcome back! We hope everyone had a fantastic summer! We had a great time seeing everyone's wonderful smiling faces! Our first day was a success. We visited Red, Orange and Blue Stations. We also enjoyed our story about a dinosaur's first day of school. We also sponge painted a dinosaur during our time at Red Station. We had s special visit from Tony the Tyrannosaurus Rex. He is a T-Rex puppet that visits our room occasionally. He was very excited to see the boys and girls!
During our first weeks of school we will discuss the theme Back to School. We will become acquainted with not only our classroom and it's routines but also our new school Lantern Road Elementary! The children had a great time getting their picture taken in front of our school. Go Leopards!

Home Activities
As we work on a variety of skills during the next two weeks we look for further reinforcement of skills at home. This continued encouragement of concepts will increase understanding and application of those skills. Below are activities to do at home.
- Visit the Indianapolis Children's Museum. The Dinosphere is wonderful place to expand your child's interest in dinosaurs. You can also visit the Dinosphere at the Indianapolis Children's Museum website, http://www.childrensmuseum.org/
- You can also visit www.pbskids.org. This website has numerous activities involving characters from PBS children's shows. There is a show called Dinosaur Train and on this website it has activities that address not only the topic of dinosaurs but also other developmental skills. Also if you go to Sesame Street with Elmo you will find an interactive Elmo's first day of school game.
- Use the attached handouts in the e-mail to further reinforce our theme and skills we will work on during the two weeks.
- Go on a dinosaur hunt. Search in your home for a dinosaur, leave clues about different dinosaurs around your home for children to guess which dinosaur you might find. Use flashlights when going on your hunt. You could also have your dinosaur find different supplies you might find at school in your home. Do you have a puzzle, crayons, glue. story books? Ask your child what they do with these items?
- Use uncooked pasta noodles to create your own dinosaur. The pasta noodles can look like dinosaur bones.
