Gregory Gardens Weekly Bulletin
Week of April 14, 2019
Greetings from Administration
We have finally had some much anticipated warm weather! We hope you and your family had a wonderful weekend enjoying the sunshine, sporting events and relaxing time together. We are recharged and ready to tackle week 33 at Gregory Gardens!
Preschool students had no complaints about the beautiful weather! They could be heard across campus giggling and playing on their play structure! We especially love watching them ride around and around on their bikes!
Last week Mrs. Phillips introduced 7 new chicken eggs to her classroom family! Second graders will spend the next 21 days anxiously waiting for the arrival of their new feathery classmates! Students are eager to observe and record activities of their new friends.
Second graders in Mrs. Hagstrom's class have been working on letter writing, comparing data in math and focusing on the spelling pattern /ur/. Perhaps they can use their new skills to write letters to their teacher this week!
Fifth graders had a very busy week. With two middle school tour trips and a day at the Lawerence Hall of Science in Berkeley, we have no doubt there was a lot to talk about at the dinner table.
Below please check out upcoming events and must know information!

PBIS/Soul Shoppe at GGES
Our PBIS team met this week to review school wide culture. Our team consists of one teacher from each grade, counselor, resource teacher, District Equity Administrator, Jorge Melgozaey, and MDUSD Behaviorist Sean Taylor. The team is moving forward to create school wide systems and norms that reflect the PBIS guiding principals which include implementing a multi-tiered approach to social, emotional and behavior support. The purpose of PBIS at Gregory Gardens is to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and equity at our school. With continued support from the equity department our PBIS journey will take us into the 2019-2020 school year.
On Tuesday we kick off our first of four Soul Shoppe assemblies for students. Students will gather with their grade levels, teachers and a trained instructor for assembly #1 entitled " The Check In". "The Check In" is designed to help students give words to their feelings and emotions and ask for help and express themselves accordingly. They will learn phrases like, "Right now I need..." and "Will you please...." Talk with your students about the strategies they are learning at our assemblies and how they can implement them both at school and at home.
Robert Shearer Preschool
Last week students in P3 had fun sharing their Spring Break memories with their friends and teachers. They also practiced ABAB patterns, final letter sounds /k/ and /g/, and preposition words.
A highlight of their week was learning that chickens aren't the only animal that hatches from an egg. After reading a few stories students learned that birds, amphibians, dinosaurs, owls and insects are among a few animals born in an egg. Did you know the seahorse and the octopus are born from an egg too?!?!?
We recommend the following books to continue to conversation about animals born in eggs.
*Big Eggs by Molly Cax
*Charlie Chick by Maurice Pledger
*Here a Chick, There a Chick by Bruce McMillan
