Discovery Counselor's Corner
Miss Owens - March 15th, 2024
Have a fun and safe Spring Break, March 18th-22nd!
Kindergarten Registration
Discovery Kindergarten registration for 2024-2025 is on March 26.
To enroll for kindergarten, your child must be 5 years of age on or before September 1st, 2024.
An appointment time is required for Tuesday, March 26th!
In order to set an appointment time, all documents and PowerSchool information needs to be completed/submitted to the office.
Please complete the linked form and submit all required documents to the office.
If you or someone you know has a child that is starting kindergarten next year, please ask them to call the office at (208)855-4090 to begin the registration process. It is very important for us to know how many students we will have for the 2024-2025 school year.
PowerSchool Forms and Information
Each Spring, we ask families to update their information in their PowerSchool accounts. It is imperative that we have updated information and contacts in order to best serve our students. Please contact the office with any questions.
Additionally, if you are moving or not returning to Discovery Elementary for the 2024-2025 school year, please contact the office at burrell.janae@westada.org or call 208-855-4090. It is helpful in planning our upcoming school year and having your student's records prepared and accessible for transfer.
Attention Families of 5th Grade Students!
Pathways Middle School is now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 school year. Pathways is a public middle school within West Ada that offers a smaller environment for students to learn. Pathways is a great option for students who feel lost in the crowd or may feel overwhelmed with traditional middle schools. These students may find it difficult to stay organized, stay caught up, or simply feel that traditional middle schools are too big for them to get connected. Applications can be found at https://www.westada.org/o/pathways and submitted to Miss Owens once they are complete.

Friendship Friday
Twice a month, I will be meeting with different groups of students for Friendship Friday during lunch. Groups will consist of 4-6 students, and we will all eat lunch together and play games in my office. This is not an intervention or support group, therefore there will not be a specific curriculum or skills taught during this time. This program is meant to provide students the opportunity to meet peers from different classes and get to know each other.
This program may not be suitable for all students because there will not be direct teaching of skills. Friendship Friday is a great opportunity for new students or kids that struggle to find the confidence to make new friends. That said, please reach out to me if you think your child would benefit from connecting with new friends!
Discovery Dash for Cash
Discovery's largest fundraiser, the Dash for Cash, will take place on Friday, April 12th. More information to come!

A Message from your DEC
As we gear up for the upcoming Discovery Dash for Cash scheduled for Friday, April 12th, the Discovery Elementary Community (DEC) is still actively seeking business sponsorships to help fund t-shirts for every student participating in the event. If you or someone you know is interested in sponsoring t-shirts for the event, please contact the DEC at discoverypta@gmail.com. A breakdown of sponsorship levels is attached as well for reference.
Additionally, the DEC is actively seeking parents interested in filling DEC positions for the upcoming school year. There is at least one open position that must be filled before the end of the school year. It is imperative for the continuation of our efforts that this position is filled; otherwise, the DEC may face dissolution.
Your involvement and support are invaluable to our school community. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of our students. Thank you for your attention and ongoing support!
Does your family need resources?
