Spring Break - March 29 - April 2
TGMS Spreads Kindness throughout March
Community Kindness
Students will bring home a flyer with suggested acts of kindness, they are invited to spread kindness throughout the community and report back using paper strips at the bottom of the flyer. Once returned, we will make a giant paper chain of kindness. Once the kind act is completed, students can return the tear slip to school with what they did. Our goal is to create a paper chain from the returned slips and display them in the main hallway.
Say Something
As parents, we know it can be difficult to know how your child is feeling. Today, many students turn to print, video and online channels to express themselves, their thoughts and hopes, and their anxieties and personal feelings. Some even go as far as hinting at hurting themselves or someone else. Their friends and peers are the eyes and ears of a school and community, and may see and hear these communications, but may not always understand or know what to do with that information. Sandy Hook Promise’s Say Something Program trains students to look for warning signs and threats - especially on social media - of someone at risk of hurting themselves or others and to “say something” to a trusted adult before a tragedy can occur.
This month, TGMS students will participate in many Kindness Initiatives:

Awareness Day events
On Monday, May 17th Toll Gat Middle School is joining Toll Gate Elementary School for a virtual Awareness Day. Both schools have a large variety of students with a range of disabilities and medical conditions. Our mission is awareness and education. We are planning a day full of activities to illustrate differences among all students, yet also how all students share many similarities. This day is very similar to year’s past Awareness events, due to positive feedback received from students, staff, and community members who helped with this event. Each classroom will be attending two thirty minute sessions on this day virtually. Presenters will be doing google hangouts with classes or sessions will be pre recorded for students to watch on a variety of topics related to Disability Awareness. We are asking each grade level to wear their assigned color that day to spread awareness. Further information will come out about a Awareness spirit week the week of May 17th!
