Monthly Newsletter - March 2017
Spring Fundraiser
Parents will need to pick-up their items on March 23, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. No items will be stored.
This money will be used in a variety of ways, for example: In-house educational programs for all students such as the Big Canyon Balloon, field trips for all students, family friendly events such as movie night and craft night, items for classrooms and teachers and the Blue Jay Festival.
These are just some of the wonderful things we provide to help make OCE great. With your support through our fundraisers, we can continue to help make OCE the best school!
The PTA Needs You!
Did you know that The PTA is open to all friends and family of OCE, not just parents? This includes adult family members and friends who wish to be on the board.
The PTA is looking to fill board positions for the 2017-2018 school year. We will hold the election on March 23, 2017 at 6 p.m in the cafeteria (where fundraiser items will also be picked up).
The PTA is vital to our school, teachers and children. Please consider joining this amazing association that helps make OCE great!
Additional information about several of these positions can be found at: http://www.txpta.org/local-pta-leaders or email us at ocepta@att.net for additional information.

S.T.E.M. Project - Dancing Raisins
Dancing Raisins Experiment:
- clear sodas (Examples: Sprite, Mountain Dew and tonic water)
- raisins
- clear glasses
- water (for the control)
1. Fill clear glasses each with a different type of soda. (Using soda that hasn't been refrigerated and is at room temperature will work best for observing since no condensation formed on the side of the glass).
2. Add raisins into the soda. They begin to “dance” around the glass. It’s very cool to watch!
3. Add raisins to a glass of water to see if something besides soda will cause the raisins to dance. What did they do?
How Does It Work?
The raisins are more dense than the soda so they sink to the bottom. Air bubbles from the soda then form on the outside of the raisins which cause them to float up to the top. When the bubbles pop they sink back down which makes it look like they are dancing!
