FREE/REDUCED LUNCH STATUS - VERY IMPORTANT
This waiver ends May 27. Any student whose family has not completed the free/reduced lunch forms for this school year or who has not completed direct certification will immediately be charged full prices for breakfast and lunch if he/she is attending summer school.
It is extremely important for ALL families to complete the free/reduced lunch forms immediately to avoid these costs. Many, many families qualify for this benefit without realizing they do. Cost of living has risen significantly over the last few years - if we can assist with this - please let us help. We will have tables set up at every event to help families from now until the end of the school year.
A new form will have to be completed for the 2022-2023 school year after July 1st. The application is available at the following link: https://myschoolapps.com/Application
Dear LSE Family,
Do you have plans for moving next year? We are working really hard at planning for changes inside of LSE for the 2022-2023 school year. With 6th grade transitioning to the middle school and so many staffing changes inside of LSE, we have many classrooms changing spaces.
If your family is planning on a move either to another school zone or to another school district, we would sure appreciate you letting our front office know so we can account for that in our student numbers. We also want to make sure we flag the student file and make sure we get student records to the right school!
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week all across the nation. I am planning many great things for the amazing staff at LSE. What I can tell you staff love and appreciate more than anything, is simple handwritten notes or cards. Let them know you see them and realize they are doing great things with your kids! Thank you for sharing your kids with us each and every day!
Much Love,
Mrs. Sanders, Principal

MELEAH TEIG - SPECIAL EDUCATION PARA
Hi! I’m Meleah Teig, and I am the new paraprofessional at Lee’s Summit Elementary School. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from The University of Central Missouri in 2020, and I am currently in Graduate School at UCM to become a School Counselor.
I have always had a passion and innate understanding of creating a safe environment for children with special needs since I was child and on into adulthood.
I have coached recreational and competitive gymnastics for the past 4 years and it has brought me so much joy to work with children of all ages, backgrounds and abilities!
I also am a dog-walker and dog-sitter for Katie’s Kennel in Kansas City. I love animals and try to spend as much time with them as I can!
I own my photography business and I have had a passion for photography and artistry since I was 3 years old!
I am so excited to be joining the team at Lee’s Summit Elementary and be a vital team member and paraprofessional that will help the children learn different coping mechanisms, stay on track with their educational and personal goals as well as be a nurturing and patient adult to each child I meet!
KIM OERHING - LIBRARIAN
My name is Kim Oehring. I have been in education for the past 16 years. In 2005, I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I was a classroom teacher for 12 years. Each year, I served on the Benchmarking Team to create formal assessments that would align with state standards. In 2018, I earned my Master of Science degree in Career and Technical Education and also obtained my Library Media Specialist certification.
For the past 4 years, I have enjoyed being a Library Media Specialist. In those 4 years, I had the opportunity to launch a brand new maker space to integrate technology in classrooms. I have had the pleasure of working with teachers and students as we aligned technology and literacy with the curriculum to make learning more engaging. I have also worked diligently to add current and relevant literature to our library to keep our students excited about reading. I am passionate about teaching and helping students develop a love for reading.

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN PE THIS WEEK?
Students will be working on their striking skills using short handed and long handed implements in all grade levels. They will get to use paddles, baseball bats and tees, and hockey sticks in a variety of ways and games. Striking using short-handed and long-handed implements can really help develop your child(s) fundamental movement skills such as their running speed, agility, balance, and hand-eye coordination. During this unit, it is extremely important that your child comes to PE class equipped with the proper clothing to participate safely. Now that the weather is getting nicer out, please make sure that your child comes with the proper clothes and shoes for PE class. No sandals, flip flops, crocs, or boots of any kind preferably.

Planning for Next Year!
WE NEED YOUR HELP GETTING STUDENTS TO SCHOOL DAILY AND ON TIME!
Please work to get your children to school on time and get them to school each day! When students are late or miss school all together, they miss valuable instruction time. Students can enter the building at 8:10 each morning. They are considered tardy at 8:25. We really need your help in getting your children to school on time. This helps get their day started off in a positive way. Most of our classroms start the day with a short family meeting to discuss current events, social emotional well skills, or classroom expectations. They move right into instruction of math or reading immediately. It is imperative your children are at school on time!
WE KNOW TIMES ARE HARD FOR SOME OF OUR FAMILIES! USE OUR PANTRY!
Did you know LSE has a food pantry and clothing closet? Last year we collaborated with our district facilities department and the Summit Church to convert one of our storage rooms into this space! This fall the Summit Church built us an amazing shelving system for shoes, clothes and coats so that we could stay organized!
If you have needs for winter coats, jackets, shoes, socks, or clothing, please do not hesitate to reach out to our front office! We can schedule a time for you to come in through our gym door and help you find what you need!
We also have a food pantry for non-perishable food items. We use these items to fill our two pantries out front but also can help families that may need food!
We accept donations too! We especially need nonperishable food items, self care items such as shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, deodorant, and bath soap!
Call our front office if we can be of assistance or to drop off donations! 816-986-3340.
