Glacier Ridge Elementary School 10.01.21
Dear Glacier Ridge Families,
Dear Glacier Ridge Families,
Welcome to October!
We've had a great week here at Glacier Ridge. Picture day was this past Tuesday and all went well. Some of our group activities can prove to be challenging due to mitigation factors for COVID but all our pre-planning helps us to keep things running smoothly. If your child did not get their picture taken we have retakes scheduled for November 3rd.
Today we have our back large playground being blacktopped and it looks great. See the pictures below. This will be a great improvement and will help keep our students safe. Thank you to our Operations department for getting this accomplished.
Next week is our annual PTA Fun Run Fundraiser. Thank you to everyone that contributed! All your donations go to all the great things that the PTA helps provide to Glacier Ridge. Find out more about this by joining us for our virtual PTA meeting Tuesday evening.
Have a great weekend and get those rakes tuned up!

PTA Fun Run
The Fun Run is next week! We are so excited and the school has done an awesome job collecting donations! This is the last week - call your grandparents, FaceTime your Uncle, ask your neighbor! You can do it! We are still looking for a few more volunteers. Please check out the volunteer information at this link or QR code: http://bit.ly/grfunrun21
Art to Remember
We will once again be participating in the Art to Remember fundraising event. Parents and friends can purchase a keepsake item with your child's artwork. All proceeds benefit our school's PTA. Please click on the link for more information.

Thank you for supporting our fine arts program!
It's A Bird! It's A Plane! It's SUPER Library!
We have gone over library procedures and we keep working on getting more familiar with logging in to Destiny Discover. Primary grades have been reviewing fiction and nonfiction books. Intermediate grades are reviewing Destiny Discover and will be starting Independent Book Browsing. Many classes are earning rewards for good choices in library class. These days can get a bit messy, so Encore T-shirts are very helpful!
If your child was in 2nd-4th grades since 2020, please ask if they turned in their Library Journal. Several students have said it is in the "brown box," so if you can help them look, that would be amazing! We are starting to use journals this week.
Our goal is for students to check out each week, so please be sure they are returning at least one book per week. Please designate a spot for library books in your home. Books are returned every day, so there is no reason to wait until your child's Library Day to return them. Every day is a good day to return books your child has finished reading.
Please check your homes for any books that may have not been returned. We appreciate your time to look! If you are unable to find books or need to know the titles that were checked out, please email gwjohnston@d47.org. We can let you know the amount to replace missing items. **We receive about two "lost" books each week! THANK YOU for looking and sending them in!**
Do you have some time to work on library projects? We have several volunteer library projects and could use your help! Please contact Mrs. Johnston at gwjohnston@d47.org if you are interested.
Can you spare a plastic grocery bag or two?
Our fifth graders will be making paper mache pumpkins later this month and we are in desperate need of plastic grocery bags. If you would be so kind as to send some to school, your child can drop them off in the blue bin outside the art room. Thank you so much!
COVID FAQ for parents: Quarantine/Isolation etc.
Due to the number of COVID cases and calls nurses are fielding, the district has added a dedicated web page in the COVID section of the district website with FAQs about quarantine and isolation. This information can also be found in the COVID family reference guides. As a reminder, all COVID-related info can be found at www.d47.org/fall2021.
