Holiday Food Drive
Once again it’s for the Plano Santas’ Holiday Food Drive! The district works in conjunction with the Assistance Center of Collin County and Plano Santas to hold the canned food drives at each school and district facility, and has participated in this effort for over 21 years. This group of local Plano merchants, business men and women, civic and community leaders provide assistance to needy families each year during the holiday season. A month’s worth of food and children’s gifts are provided for more than 500 families each year! Last year Plano Santas collected 93,186 cans & the donations fed about 564 people for 30 days!
Help Murphy Middle School donate over 7,500 food items towards this worthy cause. The drive begins on Monday, Nov. 11 and will run through Friday, Nov. 22. All donations need to be dropped off before school in the rotunda, just outside of the cafeteria. The students of the Social Studies teacher whose classes bring in the most items will receive a snack party, provided by the Student Council.

*** Clubs and Organizations ***
Student Council Kindnessgrams
Kindness is like confetti, sprinkle it everywhere!
Take the time to show someone how kind they are by completing a Kindnessgram during lunch. See a Student Council member outside of the cafeteria to complete the note. It will be displayed during the week. As it will then be given to the student you’re recognizing next Friday, you must know the student’s 7th period teacher when completing the note. As kindness costs nothing, but means everything, there is no charge for recognizing someone’s kindness.
Environmental Club
The MMS Environmental Club will meet Friday, Nov. 8th from 3:30-4:30 in the DLR rm B142 to make tree decorations for the City of Murphy’s contest. The ornaments will be made from plastic bottles and paper. Bring any craft materials, including Sharpies for decorating.
Murphy Math Counts Club
Do you know a student that LOVES math and LOVES to compete? Then, Math Counts may be the club for your student! Math Counts Competition is a national middle school mathematics competition that builds problem solving skills and fosters achievement through four levels of fun, in person “bee” style contests. Murphy Middle School is able to take 10 Murphy students to compete in the Preston Trail Chapter competition at University of Texas at Dallas on Saturday, February 1, 2020*. (*The February 1st date is an estimate based on prior competitions. The actual contest date has not been announced, but the competition is always on a Saturday.) Students will try out for a spot to compete by completing a battery of tests: two with a calculator (school provided) and one without. The top four students will comprise the team for Murphy and the next six students will compete as individuals. These tests will be in the Distance Learning Room (DLR) after school on November 5, November 12, and November 19. Students will need to stay until 4:30PM to test.
To insure that your student has a seat to try out, please have your student sign up: https://forms.gle/4b2LaRMS97JiiaL5A
T-shirt and Dress shirt Donations
Donations can be dropped off anytime during the school day in Mr. Adams' rooms, B119 or K102.
Thank you!

PISD RESOLVING STUDENT AND PARENT CONCERNS
Plano ISD encourages students and parents to attempt to resolve their concerns with the appropriate teacher, principal, other campus administrator, department or employee. The district believes it is in the best interest of everyone involved to informally resolve concerns, if at all possible. Concerns should be expressed as soon as possible to allow early resolution at the lowest possible administrative level.
