The Falcon
Fieldstone Middle School * June 26, 2019
Dear Fieldstone Families,
We are so grateful for your support of our students' learning, our programs, and the work that our staff does. Because of our partnership, we have all enjoyed a growth-filled and enriching school year.
With the end of the school year comes transitions, and we have said goodbye to cherished members of our Fieldstone family. We wish our eighth graders continued success in high school, as well as two of our faculty members. Mrs. Jan Halder, our school nurse who has served the Fieldstone community for the past 20 years, will be retiring. We wish her much happiness and good health as she begins this new chapter of her life. Mr. Rich Jopp, who has taught eighth grade social studies for the past 12 years, will be pursuing a career opportunity outside of education. We wish him all the best in this new endeavor.
We hope that you all have a very relaxing and fun summer filled with family, friends, and lots of good books.
Please see below for additional topics of interest and the many reasons why it's great to be a Falcon.
All the best,
Gina McCormack

Best Wishes to Mrs. Halder!
Congratulations to the FMS Class of 2019!
Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a nation-wide reading program whose goal is to encourage reading for pleasure, broaden reading interest, and recognize students who enjoy reading. Mrs. Murrell summarized the end of the season as follows:
Our 5th/6th grade team got some great experience in their first Battle but did not achieve a trophy this year. Our 7/8 team, however, resoundingly took first AND second place with a runaway victory leaving the next closest team 50 points behind. Our two 7/8 teams did so well, they had to Battle each other in a tiebreaker to decide which team was first and which second. All 28 readers in the club read at least four books while several read all 15 selections as we prepared for Battle. Sadly I am saying farewell to my eighth graders and wish them all the best.

Seventh Grade Wax Museum
Each seventh grade student researched an important figure of United States history and developed a characterization of this figure to be included in a Living Wax Museum. Students had the opportunity to work on various components in both of their social studies and language arts classes, and the entire school community had the opportunity to learn about influential figures in American history from various time periods including exploration and colonization, the Revolution, the formation of our nation, the westward expansion, and the Civil War.
Summer Learning
Summer is finally here! July and August are important months for students to explore new opportunities, spend time with family and friends, and recharge their academic batteries. Summer can also be an effective time to reinforce productive habits developed during the school year, such as independent reading. Below are links to suggested learning activities to support student growth and learning over the summer months. Please note, however, that there are required English Language Arts (ELA) assignments for students entering grades 5-9. Please contact your child's respective school with any questions.
Move-Up Day
Any student who wishes to try out for interscholastic sports and/or wants to participate in Intramurals must meet our school regulations regarding eligibility for athletic tryouts at Fieldstone Middle School. To participate, you need to be medically cleared and have all of your required paperwork for physicals turned in to the school nurse prior to the “start of the activity”. The start of the activity is defined as the first day of tryouts or the first meeting date for Intramurals. Physicals must have been completed within 365 days of the start of the activity and signed by our school physician.
Please note the following dates for the 2019 Fall Athletic Season:
Interest Meeting - TBD
Physical Due Date - Tuesday, September 10th @ 9:00 AM
Tryouts - September 11th - 13th
First Game - Monday, September 23rd
Please do not wait until the last minute to make appointments, as physicians' appointments will be filled at the end of the summer. Students will not be permitted to attend fall tryouts unless they have a current physical on file.
