PATRIOT POST
August 28, 2017 Volume III. Issue IIII.
One Team, One Goal, No Limits!
Thank you for another amazing week at Liberty Point. You all did an amazing job with the delayed dismissal on “Eclipse Day”, curriculum night was great, and the support at our first school dance was greatly appreciated. As we begin this upcoming week, keep in mind the importance of P-R-E-P-A-R-A-T-I-O-N. For us to reach our instructional goals, every lesson that we teach must be well planned and well executed. If our daily actions are focused and intentional, I know that we will continue to do great things for our students! Have a great week!

Liberty Point's Big Rock Update - LITERACY!
You now have 2 full weeks of UoS implementation under your belt! Kudos!
This week we're going to pause our rollout process because it's important that we tighten up what we have in place now before we head into
RUOS small groups and conferring. So, breathe!
Point to Ponder:
1. What does the current state of your leveled library say about your/ your students' value of books and the importance of reading?
Norming:
1. We are well into Bend II and its time for our Book Baggies. Book baggies will be delivered to your room on Monday. Book Baggie Idea & Guidelines
2. Book Shopping Schedules need to be posted. Book Shopping Ideas & Guidelines
3. Classroom Library books will not travel home this year due to limited classroom leveled libraries. Media Center books and MyOn will be utilized at home. We also need to push for book store and public library visits. Sign Up for Scholastic Book Clubs to Earn More Books
LITT Talk # 2: Connections Between Inquiry and Literacy
It is imperative that we move strategically by ensuring that we align our efforts and move the "Big Rock" of literacy across all content areas. The process of inquiry is essential to student mastery of science, social studies, and math content . Consider the connection between inquiry and literacy:
Students developing inquiry skills go through a process of learning that aligns strongly to the process of developing literacy skills.
In the early phases of inquiry (Connect and Wonder), students are expected to think in ways similar to those most effective in the pre-reading phase of literacy. During the Investigate phase, students also use reading and thinking strategies to monitor their own comprehension, extract meaning, and answer questions. The Construct, Express, and Reflect phase parallel the post-reading phase in which students draw conclusions, construct new understandings, and develop a product to share, and reflect on their learning.
By understanding the synchrony of literacy and inquiry process, teachers can enhance the inter-development of inquiry and learning.
