Housing Selection 2018-2019
Updated information and dates!
Housing Selection Overview
The Southern Vermont College Housing Selection Process for 2018-2019 academic year is a credit-based housing selection system. The more completed credits you have, the higher ranked you will be for housing selection. For Housing points, the cutoff date for credits earned is April 1, 2018
All students who are eligible to live off-campus (see list of criteria below) must submit the Off-Campus Living Application by March 30, 2018 to the Assistant Director of Student Affairs. Students approved for off-campus living will not be considered for on-campus housing.
To be exempted from the residency requirement, a student must meet one of the following criteria:
- At least four semesters of on-campus residency (Class of 2019 and 2020);
- At least six semesters of on-campus residency (Class of 2021);
- Be 23 years of age or older;
- Be a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces;
- Be married and/or have children;
- Be considered a local resident by living within a 50 mile commuting radius of SVC, had have established that residence at least one year prior to enrollment.
All students who will reside in a College residence must submit the Housing Contract to be eligible for housing selection. Housing Contracts are due by March 30, 2018 to the Assistant Director of Student Affairs.
There will be no singles, including walk-through singles, available in Darby or Ellinwood during housing selection. Students who select rooms in Darby or Ellinwood as an individual will likely be assigned a roommate through the housing selection process.
Aldis, Bowen, and Cady Halls are designated as first year housing, and will not be available for selection.
There is no additional form to complete to select Hunter Hall.
RA rooms will be designated prior to selection, and you will be able to see where they are housed when you come to select.
Housing selection will be held April 9-11 in Hunter Hall. More information will be sent to students the week prior to selection.
Group and Individual Selection
You can choose your housing assignment either individually or as part of a group. Groups can be formed to fill a double in Darby or Ellinwood, a suite in Ellinwood, or a hallway in Hunter. Groups must fill the entire suite/hallway in order to be considered.
There will be suites held in both Ellinwood and Hunter for individual students who are not part of a group to select.
It is projected that the following space will be available during housing selection. This is subject to change at the discretion of Residence Life:
Darby: Female- 6 doubles; Male- 6 doubles
Ellinwood: Female- 8 doubles; Male- 10 doubles
Hunter Hallways:
3 – hallways with 3 singles
9 – hallways with 4 singles
8 – hallways with 5 singles
Groups must submit the Suite/Hallway Group Housing Application by March 30, 2018. Prior to selection day, groups will be notified of whether or not they are approved to continue in the selection process. If there are more group submissions than number of available spaces of that size, groups may be contacted to change in size/create new grouping. As selection continues, groups may need to change in size or disband if size of group does not match a suite size available. You should have back-up plans in case your choices are no longer available when it is your time to select.
There will not be a non-traditional housing suite in Hunter Hall for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Students who submit the Quiet Living application will select housing first.

Housing Points
Housing Points are calculated using your Earned Credits + GPA - subtracted points based on Responsible Violations [-1 point deducted for each responsible policy violation through 3/30/18]-[1 point deducted for not completing compliance requirement]. Compliance requirements include, but are not limited to, Title IX training and immunization record submission.
[Credits Earned + GPA]– (Responsible conduct violation(s)) – (Compliance violations) = Housing Points
Example: (32 credits + 3.25GPA)- 2 responsible findings- 0 compliance violations= 33.25 points
Points will be used to determine selection order. The student/group with the most points will select first.
Proxy Selection
If a student cannot make their appointment time, then the student must submit a proxy form (even if the student is in a group). The Residence Life Staff will select based on preferences on submitted proxy form. If the individual is in a group, then proxy will be verified by Residence Life Staff when group selects. Students will not be permitted to serve as a proxy for another student.
