School Closure Extended
March 25, 2020 - Schools will be closed through April 24
WCPS staff,
At Governor Hogan’s press conference this morning, it was announced that all Maryland public schools will be closed through April 24.
Dr. Michael has shared a video update on his public Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100007105785980). It will also be posted to the WCPS Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/wcpsmd) and the WCPS YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/myWCPS411).
As Dr. Michael mentions in his message, employees will continue to be paid their standard hours for the duration of the closure. As a reminder, each employee group will be paid as follows:
ESP:
You will be paid your standard hours. You do not need to enter anything on your timecard to be paid.
Teachers:
You will receive your normal paycheck. Your assignments will resume from home on March 30 as part of our distance learning plan. We will be sharing additional information about next steps in communications tomorrow.
Other Employee Groups:
The following employee groups will be paid consistent with the previous two-week closure: lunch assistants, temporary teachers, temporary paraprofessionals, itinerant substitutes, and long-term substitutes (if scheduled during this period). You do not need to enter anything on your timecard to be paid.
Please continue to follow the precautions that federal and global health experts provide to help slow the spread of COVID-19, including but not limited to: wash your hands frequently, maintain social distancing of six feet or more, cover your coughs and sneezes with your elbow, and limit interactions to small groups of 10 or less people.
Thank you again for your patience as we navigate this national health emergency. Thank you for all you do for WCPS and our students!
