SPPS Phase 2 Hybrid Decision
As you may have read, SPPS has decided that students in Stage 2 will not return to school on November 30th. The earliest Stages 2, 3 and 4 will return is now January 19, 2021. For more information please see https://www.spps.org/fallplanning2020.
PTO News
1. The Capitol Hill Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) could use your help to support our school community! Please fill out this (quick) volunteer form by November 1st to help us get you connected to the right opportunity. Thank you!
2. Save the Date! The November PTO Meeting will be on November 9th from 7-8pm. Details forthcoming.
3. Teachers this month have been sharing the final class contact lists the PTO has put together for your elementary/middle school Foundations class this year. We hope this information will make it easier to connect with other families during distance learning.
Your student’s list was based on information parents volunteered to share via the PTO Directory as the school cannot provide this information to families.
The web-based directory continues to be open, and you may join at any time during the school year through the PTO Hub at https://capitolhillpto.membershiptoolkit.com.
Thanks to all who participated!
Fall Conference Update
Elementary Parent/Teacher Conferences
It is time to sign up for elementary parent/teacher conferences.
At Capitol Hill we use the PTCFast website to manage our conference appointments. This is the same website we used for our goal setting conferences in September. Conferences will be held on Google Meet and you will need to use your child's ipad to attend the meeting due to security settings.
Since we are in distance learning, the conference schedule is very flexible. Each teacher has designed their own schedule. If you are not able to meet at one of their posted times, please contact your child's teacher to make other arrangements.
Here is the link to sign up for a time:

Middle School Parent/Teacher Conferences
I apologize for the delay for signup for Middle School Conferences as we work to ensure this new sign-up process is smooth for all. We will have the sign-up sent out to families next week.
Free Meals Continue for School Year 2020-21
Applications Still Needed
On Oct. 9, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that schools may continue to provide free meals to all students and children age 18 and younger and to those with a disability currently enrolled in a school program for the entire 2020-21 school year. More information on Nutrition Services meal access, including meal box pick-up information and home delivery registration, can be found at www.spps.org/fallmeals.
While meals for the 2020-21 school year will be provided at no cost, it is still critical for families to complete an Application for Educational Benefits/Free or Reduced Price Meals as these applications will determine how much educational funding each school receives. Also, families must complete an application and qualify for free or reduced price meals to qualify for other assistance programs such as Metro Transit’s $1 Ride program, Comcast’s Internet Essentials, and some scholarships for summer camps. Online applications can be completed at www.schoolcafe/spps. Paper applications can be requested to be sent to your school by emailing ns@spps.org.
Tips and Tricks!
**Use the Reminder and Alarm apps to help your student be more independent with their schedule.**
We know many family members are helping their child keep track of their schedule at home. You can help them set reminders and alarms for important, repeating events such as taking daily attendance, morning meeting, foundations, and other live class meetings. See this video recording for step-by-step directions on how to set reminders and alarms as well as tips for when to use each app."
Attendance Update!
The Capitol Hill Attendance Office is back up and running to help with changes to student attendance. Teachers will no longer be making adjustments. Parents should call the attendance line at 651-325-2599 or email capitolhill.attendance@spps.org to report illnesses, vacations, appointments, religious observances, or participation requests.
