Dear FES Families,
While we are all learning about best practices for virtual learning, here are a few tips that would help everyone in the school.
• Be mindful when your child is online. Your conversations can be heard by the entire class. Cursing and using threatening language to others will not be tolerated in the background of instruction.
• This is still school. While your child may be in the comfort of your home, they still need to be dressed and ready to be engaged.
• There are breaks scheduled throughout the day to support movement and time away from the screen. Please encourage your child to watch the timer.
• We can help with some tech issues here at the school but we have had a few that require the support of our technology department. They can be contacted at support@ccpsstaff.org. Be patient in that they are supporting over 5,000 devices in addition to our networks.
• On Asynchronous Wednesday, students are given an assignment to complete on that day; attendance will be taken from your child turning in the completed assignments within three days (the following Monday). If the work is not completed, your child is marked absent.

- Transportation will be provided. However, because of social distancing, transportation is a challenge. Please consider if you have options other than using CCPS transportation.
- Face coverings are required for students ages five and up.
- Protocols for preventing the spread of COVID-19 through cleaning, self-assessment, and social distancing are detailed in the CCPS Recovery Plan.
- Virtual Learning will continue for students who remain at home.
Please complete a questionnaire for each student in Pre-K (age 4) through 2nd Grade only.
Fog Delay Schedules
CCPS Food Services
CCPS Food Services will continue providing free breakfast and lunch to Caroline County children ages 2–18, possibly through the end of December, through a USDA program.
- There are no income requirements.
- Families needing to either start service for children or discontinue their current service should call CCPS Food Services at 410-479-3261.
- Home delivery will continue to families who have been receiving summer meal service.
Students at Home - Home deliveries will be made prior to 1:00 pm, every weekday that schools are open.
Students in the School Buildings will receive free meals at school, also through the USDA program.
While meals for all children are currently free, families who normally fill out Free and Reduced Meal Benefit applications should still complete and turn in the application. Meal benefit applications affect school programs such as Title 1, Maryland Meals for Achievement and other initiatives that benefit children.

Parents' Right to Know
The Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) contains several provisions that promote a parent/school partnership through communication. One such provision gives parents the right to ask for and receive information about the professional qualifications of their child’s classroom teachers. A parent may request the following information:
Any college or university degree, major or certification held by the teacher
Whether the teacher is certified by the State of Maryland to teach a particular grade level or subject area
Whether the teacher holds a conditional teaching certificate
The qualifications of the paraprofessionals serving the student
If you would like to request the professional qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers or paraprofessionals, please submit a written request to the principal. The principal will provide the information to you within 30 business days of the date of your request.
Parents may also request information on the level of achievement and academic growth of their child, if applicable and available, on each of the State academic assessments.
Parents will receive timely notice if the student has been assigned, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet applicable State certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area in which the teacher has been assigned.
Parents May Request Teacher Information
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015 provides parents of students attending Title 1 schools the opportunity to request information about the professional qualifications of their child's teachers. Parents of elementary students may request in writing to the school principal information about their child's teacher including college/university degrees of certification held, subject area of the teacher's degree or certification, and Maryland certification status. Additionally, if your child is served by paraprofessionals, parents may request their professional qualifications.
Parent Information Resource Center
Parents are encouraged to visit our Parent Information Resource Center (PIRC) located in the lobby outside of the front office. The PIRC has a variety of parenting resources and informational brochures and flyers. These materials are all free. Parents can find booklets from The Parent Institute on topics such as “Seven Habits of Highly Responsible Students; Help Your Child Balance School and Extracurricular Activities, and Helping Children Learn to Resolve Conflicts.” Parents can also find information about Adult Education, GED English as a Second Language, Parenting skills and the Program and Activities Guide from Caroline County Recreation and Parks. Please be sure to check out our Parent Information Resource Center next time you come to the school.
