Dear Carnegie Professionals,
Carnegie School would like to welcome Mr. Jacob Gold, 6th-8th grade Reading/Math teacher. He will begin this week. Please stop by Room 212 and say hello!
The ISP School Visit: The ISP Team will conduct a site visit on Wednesday, February 20th at 10:00 a.m. We will visit classrooms to observe ThinkCERCA instructional practices, Guided Reading, Core Clicks, Learning Centers & GRR. You were asked to update the bulletin boards near your classroom with current graded student work. During transitions, security & teachers must be visible in the hallways and voice levels 0.
- Grades for ThinkCerca & Core Clicks must be recorded into Gradebook as follows: THINKCERCA-3rd (G)-8th Grades: Students must complete the entire lesson. Writing and Reading grades must be recorded in Gradebook. All teachers must score the written response by using the Quick Score Rubric. The maximum grade a student can score under each category is 5 points. Writing Grades are to be recorded as follows: Writing Grades Categories: Claim/Counterclaim, Evidence, Reasoning & Conclusion. Reading Grade (Use current Grading Scale): Reading Comprehension Check Questions. Label Gradebook: THINKCERCA: Claim, etc...
- CORE CLICKS- Grading Scale-1st–3rd Grades: Students must complete the entire lesson. Science and/or Social Studies grades must be recorded in Gradebook. Grades are to be recorded from the following lessons: Printable & Reading Checkpoint (Quiz/Assessment). Label Gradebook: CORE CLICKS.
This week Schedule at a Glance
- There is No School on Monday, February 18th. It's President's Day.
- There will be a PAC meeting on Tuesday, February 19th at 9:00 a.m. in the cafeteria.
- There will be a PowerTeaching Math Webinar on Tuesday, February 19th at 2:45 p.m. in Room 225 for all 5th -8th grade teachers of math. You will need to bring your laptop to the meeting. Classroom coverage will be provided.
- Dr. Z. Hightower and Dr. K. Saffold, ISP Chiefs will conduct a site visit on Tuesday, February 20th at 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We will visit classrooms to observe THINKCERCA, Core Clicks and Guided Reading instruction. Please prepare accordingly.
- We will host our 2nd Scholastic "My Very Own Book" Fair on Wednesday, February 20th-Friday, February 22nd in the gym. Students will be allowed to select three (3) free books of their choosing. Gym classes will be held in the classroom on these days. A Book Fair Schedule will be placed in your mailbox on Tuesday.
- On Wednesday, February 20th at 1:00 p.m., Scholastic Books has arranged for author Sharon Flake to visit our school. All 5th through 7th grade classes are invited. All 6th & 7th grade students will receive an autographed copy of her book "You Don’t Even Know Me”- stories and poems about boys. The Author visit will be held in the gym.
Domain 1: Planning & Preparation
- ThinkCerca & Core Clicks Lesson Plans for the weeks of February 19th-March 1st must be uploaded to your Google Folder on Tuesday, February 19th at 8:45 a.m.
- Gradebook: All grades must be current through Friday, February 22nd.
Domain 2: Classroom Management
- All 4th-8th grade students must go to the bathroom individually. They are NOT allowed to go to the bathroom with a partner and/or groups unless accompanied by the teacher and/or paraprofessional.
- Diverse Learner student wishing to use the IB area must be accompanied by a teacher and/or paraprofessional. Diverse Learners are NOT to be unaccompanied in the IB area.
Domain 3: Instruction
- Kindergarten-2nd Grade Teachers ONLY: All Intensive (red) students must be progress monitored on or before Friday, February 22nd. Don't forget to sync your iPad.
- DUE DATE: Student Goal Setting Meetings: All teachers must conduct Winter NWEA Student Goal Setting meetings with each student. You are to print the Student Goal Setting Worksheet and conduct meaningful conversations with your students centered on achieving their goals on Spring NWEA Assessments. Student Goal Setting meeting must be completed by Friday, February 22nd. You are to place a copy of the signed Student Goal Setting Worksheets in my mailbox and place a copy in your Carnegie Binder along with your NWEA Achievement Status and Class Report. For assistance, see your Team Chairperson.
Domain 4: Personal Responsibilities
- Our attendance rate for last week was 95.%. That's a 0.3% decrease from the previous week. You are to input attendance into IMPACT by 9:30 a.m. and send the Attendance Folder to the main office. If you are unable to input your attendance into IMPACT, you are to immediately notify the Main Office. Our school-wide attendance goal is 97%.
- This week Grade-Level meetings is designated for Peer Classroom Observation. Except for 5th-8th grade teachers of Math. You will participate in a PowerTeaching Math Webinar during your grade-level meeting time.
- Peer Classroom Observation Forms: Forms are located in Opening Day Google Folder in the Peer Classroom Observation Folder.
- Peer Classroom Observation Protocols: You are to notify your colleague via email at least 72 hours prior to your visit. Your visit should last a minimum of 30 minutes. During your observation, you are to complete the Peer-to-Peer Classroom Observation Form. After your visit, you are to complete the Peer Observation Reflection Form. Within 2 days of the observation you are to complete & place a hard copy of the Peer-to-Peer Classroom Observation Form and the Peer Observation Reflection Form in Principal’s Pollard mailbox. Place a hard copy of the Peer-to-Peer Classroom Observation Form into the teacher’s observed mailbox and keep a copy in your Carnegie Binder. PLEASE NOTE: You can only observe a colleague once.
ESP/Lunch/Recess Aides:
- Student misconducts that occur in the cafeteria and/or recess must be given to the teacher daily for input into Student Logger. You have 24 hours/the next day to provide the teacher with the write-up. Failure to provide the teacher with the write-up within 24 hours will result in the misconduct not being input into Student Logger system.
- You are to adhere to your duty schedule, especially during entry and exit times. All ESPs must be visual on school grounds. Circulating to groups of students. Any kindergarten through 3rd grade student that are still on school grounds must be brought to the main office.
- All parents/visitors must enter the building through the main entry only. Parents are NOT allowed to enter the building through any other door.
