Nixon Elementary Weekly Update
May 10, 2021
May Updates!
Hello Nixon Families!
I hope everyone had a great weekend! Below are updates for both in person and remote families for this week. Please reach out if you have any questions!
Teacher Appreciation Week: Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to all families and learners who recognized our amazing Nixon staff last week. I am so grateful for the outpouring of love and appreciation our staff received through gifts, flowers, gift cards, hand made cards, compliments, kind emails, and food!
Beginning of the Day Drop Off: This is a friendly reminder that learners cannot come to school before 8:30 daily. We have started to see an uptick in friends arriving to school too early, and we do not have supervision until 8:30. We have found, left unattended, our learners have been getting a little rowdy in the mornings, which makes coming in to start our day more difficult. Please do NOT drop off your children or have them walk over to Nixon until after 8:30 am. Thank you for your support with this!
Masks: For our in person learners, please make sure you continue to send your child with a mask to school. We are going through our paper masks pretty quickly these days, so we'd appreciate our Nixon families reminding their children to grab a clean mask on the way out the door in the morning.
Device Collection: For both in-person and remote families, we will be collecting, cleaning, and storing our laptop devices. The only learners keeping their devices are our outgoing 5th graders who will take these devices with them to middle school. Remote Families: See the flyer below for more information about device drop off. In person 5th graders will bring their device and power cord home on the last day of school. You are responsible for this device over the summer. Our remote families of 5th graders, please keep those devices at home over the summer.
5th Grade Celebration: This year we will be celebrating our 5th graders as they move onto middle school with a celebration on May 27th. We will have a virtual assembly for parents and classrooms to join. We will have our annual 5th grade slideshow followed by our awards/recognition starting around 2:45pm. We hope families our of 5th graders will join us for this event--a link will be coming soon!
Remote Families: If you have any materials that belong to the school, specifically text books, please plan to drop those off with your child's device on either June 4 or June 7th.
Nixon PTA: We are looking for new members for our Nixon PTA for the 2021-22 school year. If you are interested in making a positive impact on our learners and Nixon community, we would love for you to join! We will be holding a virtual informational meeting in the upcoming weeks. We hope you'll consider attending to learn more about how the Nixon PTA supports our school.
Upcoming Events:
- May 18: Camp Tanager Trip (Cochran, Gallaway, Harmer, Havlik)
- May 20: Camp Tanager Trip (Whiltow 2nd, Hunstad, Gabriel, and Casey Toll)
- May 31: Memorial Day (No School)
- June 3: Field Day
