Week 32
Principal's Message
Greetings Panthers!!
I hope that everyone is having a wonderful and relaxing weekend! School will be closed tomorrow, March 18th, through Friday, March 22nd for Spring Break. School will resume on Monday, March 25th.
As a reminder, the 2024 OCPS Annual Stakeholder Family Survey is now open. This survey will ask you about your thoughts on climate and safety, how easy it is to engage with our school, and how well we meet your child’s needs and expectations. The family survey window is NOW OPEN and will close on Friday, April 12th, 2024. Families can access the anonymous link to complete the survey at bit.ly/ocpsfamily For additional questions or information, please contact Mrs. Bradshaw or Mrs. Castro.
As always, thank you so much for your support and for all that you do for the scholars at Phillis Wheatley ES. We look forward to seeing our scholars bright and early next Monday, March 25th.
Have a wonderful Spring Break!!
Sincerely,
Tabitha Brown

Resiliency Trait of the Month
March Resiliency Trait
Critical Thinking
Definition: Gathering information to think through and determine the best choice.
Quote: “If you want to assert a truth, first make sure it's not just an opinion that you desperately want to be true.” - Neil deGrasse Tyson
Strategies:
- With your child, identify the qualities of someone who is a good critical thinker.
- Help your child organize information for a research project. The project could be personal, such as choosing a new bicycle, or school-related.
- Help your child predict the consequences of possible choices.
Discussion Questions:
- Who can you ask for help with researching a difficult problem?
- How can you compare different decisions to make the best choice?
- How can you find reliable, truthful sources of information on the internet?
- How does advertising on social media affect the way that you think about health and wellness?

ATTENDANCE REMINDERS
It is critical that our scholars are in school daily and on time. Here are a few reminders:
- If a student arrives to school after 8:15 am, a parent or guardian must come into the school to sign them in.
- A tardy slip will be given to the student, and they will be escorted to class.
- Five tardies or five early departures will result in one unexcused absence.
- Students must be present for a minimum of half a day to be considered present.
- If a student needs to be picked up for any reason, they must be signed out by an adult listed on the student’s file with a valid photo ID no later than 3:00 pm; 2:00pm on Wednesdays.
