EVERY DAY MATTERS
October 3 - October 28 is the official 20 day Oasis count period. Attendance during this period determines our Average Daily Membership (.i.e student enrollment). This is the number the State of Alaska uses to determine our funding. We realize that some absences are unavoidable, however if at all possible, we encourage families to please try not to schedule optional/elective doctors appointments, vacations, or out of state travel during this period.
Why attendance Matters:
IMPACTS TO EAGLE ACADEMY
Although, ASD is facing an enormous budget deficit (upwards of 68 million dollars), Eagle Academy does not anticipate the District's budgetary crisis will have a negative impact on our school.
Barring any major cuts to the BSA by the legislature, Eagle Academy Charter School's APB and I anticipate being able to balance our budget for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year and the foreseeable future.
How charter school finances work:
As a charter school, Eagle Academy (and all other ASD charter schools) receive funding directly from the state and federal government in the form of the Base Student Allocation (BSA) and multipliers for federal programs. This is based on the Average Daily Membership (ADM), ie. student enrollment. Additionally ASD charter schools receive a municipal contribution from the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA). The District is allowed, by state regulations, to withhold 4% of the total for indirect costs. ASD then passes through the remaining 96% to Eagle Academy. Ultimately this means that a charter school's financial resources are managed at the site level by school administration and Academic Policy Boards.
Please stay engaged in the greater community conversation.
The APB and I want to encourage all our families to attend/watch the school board meetings, participate in the community online surveys, and attend the upcoming town hall meetings. The school board will be making some very difficult decisions and several of the items being considered for elimination may indirectly impact our program in positive and negative ways.
Thank you for continuing making Eagle Academy your school of choice.

6TH GRADE CHARCOAL AND PREHISTORIC CAVE ART
WE ARE THE EAGLES
CANINE ASSISTED WARRIOR THERAPY
Friday afternoon the intermediate grades learned about Paws for Purple Hearts, the first organization of its kind to offer Canine Assisted Warrior Therapy. Their goal is to improve the lives of America's warriors facing mobility limitations, PTSD or TBI. They also build public awareness regarding the role these dogs play in these veterans' lives as they continue on their road to recovery.
Melissa Kitko, and her team of staff and volunteers, train Labrador retrievers, Golden retrievers, and a mix of these two breeds. Training takes approximately two years and costs around $30,000 per service animal. Our 4-6 grade students and staff enjoyed the hour-long presentation and learned much about the training that goes into these dogs.
