Taking Stock: End of Spring Edition
Spring Term Round Up
Ms McIntosh's Update
And, just like that, we have reached the end of the Spring term. We finished in style, despite the weather's best efforts to dampen our spirits.
We held our annual Easter Bonnet Parade for children in EYFS and KS1. Like last year, the children paraded through the building, avoiding getting soaked by the downpour. There was an array of Easter bonnets on display and, as always, the Stockwell parents showed up in force to support the children as they shook, rattled and rolled their way through the building.
It was lovely having the older children line the hallways cheering them on and encouraging them.
We never let a bit of rain get in the way of our fun at Stockwell!
Last week, Reception went on their first school trips, visiting Brockwell Greenhouses. Although the weather wasn't on RB's side, a great time was had by all.
The children explored the plants, and each child got to plant their own seed, which they took home with them.
We would like to say a HUGE thank you to all of the parents and carers that came along to support the children. We absolutely couldn't have done it without you.
On the last Monday of term, the children in LKS2 put on a West End worthy performance of Grease. The teachers had rewritten it, so that it had a strong Anti-Bullying message and the children put on an amazing show. There were Pink Ladies and T-Birds everywhere and the message that no-one should change who they are to fit in came through loud and clear.
It was amazing to see the children come to life and share such a great performance. They used their biggest voices, showed off their dance moves and, above all, worked together to pull off this amazing performance. To all of the adults working with our LKS2, I extend a hearty well done and congratulations. The children did an amazing job and did us all proud.
On Friday 22nd April, we held our first ever school sleepover and what a night it was. The children were WW2 evacuees and we immersed them in life as evacuated children.
After a snack of sandwiches and fruit, we all trooped upstairs to make model spitfires and gas masks. Everyone also complete their National Identity card, in case there was an emergency. Later, we moved to the Main Hall. After a dinner of jacket potatoes or vegetable stew, the children changed into PJs and settled down for the night.
The children in Year 3 were very excited to be staying in school, and they were full of energy, so we let them stay up to watch Bedknobs and Broomsticks, with their luxury treats, before lights out.
Amazingly, once the lights were out, the children went off to sleep quite quickly, sleeping through until the morning.
While Mrs Fraga and I went to sort out breakfast, Ms Thomas and Ms Jones took the children outside for an early morning run around in their pyjamas. It was a great night, with fun had by all. I look forward to the next one.
Thank you to Ms Jones and Ms Thomas for organising and running such a great event.
We are getting ready for our annual Eid celebration, which will take place on Friday 26th April. Preparations are well underway, a script has been prepared and raffle prizes are being assembled. We hope that lots of you will join us to celebrate as a community.
All that remains is for me to wish everyone a wonderful holiday break. See you all bright and early on Monday 15th.
Ferndale Football League
On Wednesday, Stockwell Primary had only one match and returned with an emphatic win.
St Annes 0-4 Stockwell
Goals: Bilal. B, Ryan, Henrique and Emir
MOM: Fareed
The Stockwell players were aware that they needed a win if they wanted to climb back up the table. With that in mind, the players started really well, pushing the St Annes' players back into their own half straight from the start. That pressure resulted in an early goal with a diagonal shot from Stockwell's left forward. The players continued to pile on the pressure, and quickly scored a beautiful goal that was unfortunately annulled by the referee (foul at the beginning of play). Stockwell showed resilience and did not let that decision affect them.
On the next play they scored again, this time it was their right forward with another diagonal shot. The team was in sync and they were creating many chances. Stockwell's midfielder recovered a ball from the midfield and with an individual effort, dribbled past two players from St. Annes and scored an exquisite goal with his left foot.
The game continued and the coach started subbing the players. It was one of the subs that scored the last goal, coming from the right.
Stockwell squad:
Abubaker, Bilal B, Emir, Henrique, Marco, Fareed, Ryan and Tariq.
Stockwell is back on the podium and is currently in a respectable third place.
Monthly Value
Our monthly value for April is 'Understanding'.
If you have an understanding of something, you know how it works or know what it means.
They have to have a basic understanding of computers in order to use the advanced technology.
If you are understanding towards someone, you are kind and forgiving.
Fortunately for John, he had an understanding friend.
If you show understanding, you show that you realize how someone feels or why they did something.
We would like to thank them for their patience and understanding.

Homework
Please help support your child with their spellings by looking at the spelling rules, sounds and patterns in each word. Practising spellings daily (or as much as possible) will help your children to learn and remember each word.
In KS1, children will need to choose five spelling words to put into sentences.
In KS2, children will need to write a sentence for each word, using neat, joined handwriting.
This will give the children the opportunity to understand the meaning of each word, put the word into context and allow them to practise their handwriting.
The children will complete a Spelling and Times Table test during the week.

A Whole School Approach to Anti-Bullying
What is Cyberbullying?
Cyberbullying is the use of technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person. Online threats and mean, aggressive, or rude texts, tweets, posts, or messages all count. So does posting personal information, pictures, or videos designed to hurt or embarrass someone else.
Cyberbullying also includes photos, messages, or pages that don't get taken down, even after the person has been asked to do so. In other words, it's anything that gets posted online and is meant to hurt, harass, or upset someone else.
- Parents, you have a role to play. Check their sites and monitor their devices, browsing and mail content periodically. Sit down and talk to your child about his or her concerns.
- If you ever come across anything on the internet that makes you feel uncomfortable, no matter where it is, please report it. Be Cyber-Savvy in all your on-line activities. Teach your children how to be Cyber-Savvy. Being Cyber-Savvy is the new "Don't talk to strangers"
Parent and Carer Support
Friends of Stockwell PTA
We have an active PTA, called Friends of Stockwell, who do a brilliant job of fundraising for the school and bringing the community together. Last year, every child was given a £5 donation to reduce the cost of trips; the PTA contributed to class Christmas presents; they also raised money for vulnerable families at Christmas.
It is great to see new faces getting involved. Every parent is a Friend of Stockwell. I ask that everyone gets involved. If you can spare an hour per term (that's three hours per year), your contribution would make a huge difference.
Please email friendsofstockwell@gmail.com to get involved.

Attendance
Central to raising standards in all schools and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is the need for children to attend school regularly to benefit from their education.
There is a strong link between good learning, high achievement, rapid progress and developing good social skills with excellent attendance.
We want to take this opportunity to outline our expectations for school attendance this academic year.
If your child arrives at school from 9.02am they will be marked as LATE, if they arrive after 9.30am, they will be classed as “late after the register is closed” and their attendance is classed as absent for the morning session. As the registers would have already been returned to the Department for Education.
Regular poor punctuality can also have a negative effect on your child’s attendance as well as their academic learning. Being 6 minutes late each day equals 30 minutes of missed learning every week.
If your child’s attendance drops below 90%, we will need to share our concerns with the Local Authority Education Welfare Officer at Lambeth Council.
Attendance Winners
Well done to everyone who came into school during the find week of term. Nearly every class had attendance above 95%, which is brilliant. Great job everyone!

School Uniform
School uniform should be worn throughout the school day. While we do not enforce that all school uniform should be branded, children should be wearing the correct colours (white t-shirt tops, navy trousers/ skirts/ pinafore dresses, sensible black shoes). Football boots/ coloured trainers are not school uniform and should not be worn.
Children should be changing into their PE kits for PE lessons (blue or black tracksuit bottoms, plain white t-shirt, trainers). We have made arrangements for girls and boys to be able to change separately, so the expectation is that all children change for PE.
While our supplier of school uniform is WearAbouts, we do have some items available for sale from the school office. Please check with us to see if we have what you need in stock.
Reporting a Concern
If you have a concern, please see your child's class teacher in the first instance. If they are unable to resolve the problem, please speak to your child's phase leader.
If they are unable to help, please see one of the school's Assistant Headteachers.
If you are still dissatisfied, please see the Acting Head of School.
