Thurston Colt Round-Up
Bi-monthly Student and Family Newsletter
From the Principal
December 16th, 2022
Hello Colts and Colt Families,
We have made it to winter break! There is so much to celebrate as we review 2022.
We have connected as a community - with a true freshman orientation, all school assemblies, dances, and daily advisory
We have made space for joy - with spirit weeks and Tree of Joy
We have made space for collaboration - with advisory compensations like the corral locale and snowman, grade-level cohort meetings and the Colt Pride Cup contests
We have made space for celebration - with colt compliment card competitions and the Excellent 8
We have established schoolwide routines and expectations that honor instructional time - with posted expectations in common areas and in classrooms around cell phone use, sign-in/sign-outs and fun bathroom passes.
We hope you have a great holiday season and that the students get a couple weeks to rest and recharge for the New Year. As 2022 comes to an end, we sincerely hope that 2023 finds our Colt families healthy, happy, and successful. We can’t wait for what’s ahead.
Students return from break on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023.
Cheers!
Principal Pelster

Tree of Joy
The students here at THS raised nearly $4,000 to provide a christmas experience for 35 of our feeder elementary students. Students from the Leadership class shopped for gifts and delivered them this past week. We are proud of the students at THS and how they represent our community by giving their time and energy to help those in need. In the New Year, students will be ready to launch the THS Pageant, which raises money for The Children’s Miracle Network.
Missing Assignments
Long breaks can be a great time for those procrastinators to get caught up on any missing assignments or “re-do’s” they need to take care of. Take a few minutes to go over their StudentVue and ParentVue to see what they can do to be more caught up when they return.
The next late-work deadline is Friday, January 27th.
Family Resource Center: Cold Weather Coat Drive
THS student and Family Resources center is hosting a Cold Weather Coat Drive! We are looking for new or gently used coats that are clean, and in good condition. If you have any questions regarding donations or ways to donate, contact Jake Bonnet, at the Thurston front desk at 541-744-5000.
Are you a family in need of food support or a little winter warmth? Reach out to your student's counselor or our front office and ask about our Holiday Help. 541-744-5000.
From the Student Services Office
Thurston Student Services - Attendance Hotline (541-744-5027)
87% of students are attending every class period.
96% of students are on-time to class each day for the previous week.
Help us hit our target of 95% daily attendance, with every student missing no more than 1 absence per month.
Attendance 101 - Do I need to call? Yes!
Student attendance matters. Students who attend regularly (no more than 1 absence per month) have the best chance of academic success. This year, automatic calls will be made when students are absent. Families are encouraged to proactively communicate with the school attendance office at 541-744-5027.
