News and Information
Swimming continues April 1,2 and 3!
2nd Grade Spelling Bee
Cohen, Kora, Ryan P., Charlie and Garrett did a great job for our class ! Check out my tweet on Friday afternoon to see the results !
Wax Museum Is Coming Up Soon!
April 12th is the date of the wax museum. Please start working on your child’s costume. I need the costumes at school no later than Friday, April 5th. Please don’t spend lots of money on the costume. It is nice to shop at Goodwill and other thrift shops to find pieces that will make the costume special. Just get as close as you can to the look and time period of the character and be creative!
Coats Needed
Please continue to send a coat with your child. Morning recess is still quite chilly and we want everyone to be dressed safely for the temperature.
If you’d like to sit with your child at lunch we’d love to have you. Lunch begins at 11:47 a.m. If you wish to eat the school lunch, please call the office to order a tray.
Reading
We continued our reading unit. We are focusing on cause and effect and making connections to the text. We continue to practice and review comprehension strategies, phonics, and fluency on a daily basis.
Math
Data and Graphing
building a bar graph
identifying parts of the graph- title, labels, data, numbers
analyzing the data
Those who have not made it to level M of subtraction will start having fact homework on Monday to finish all subtraction levels by the end of the year.
Goals for Subtraction Facts
Level M by March 8-
Level Z by May 22
Once a student reaches Level Z and can do at least 95 out of 100 subtraction problems in 5 minutes they move to multiplication facts.
English and Writing
In writing, -- Speech writing is complete! They were sent home Monday ! Start practicing those speeches- there is a lot of information and it will take some time to get them down. Tip- work on 1 section (or even a couple sentences) then add another section (or sentence) until they are able to recite the entire speech.
English skills: we took a break from English while swimming, but we ar reviewing some skills for NWEA.
