Staff Spotlight: Instrumental Music Teacher- Mrs. Graziano
Where are you from? Where did you grow up?
I am a lifetime Jersey Girl. I grew up in a small, rural farm town in Warren County called Asbury (not Asbury Park!) I’ve been gradually working my way east ever since, and now live in the South Plainfield area.
What does your education journey look like?
I went to Mansfield University of Pennsylvania for my Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, where I majored in clarinet, but also focused on piano and voice. I also have a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Thomas Edison State University. This year is my 27th year teaching music in one form or another.
What is your favorite thing about working at AH?
I love the diversity of both our school and our community. It has allowed me to learn so much more about how to teach all different kinds of students, and so much about other cultures and backgrounds.
When you are not working how do you spend your free time?
Most of my free time these days is spent in a gym! I’m a competitive “Masters” (meaning, older…) Olympic-style weightlifter. I train about 8-10 hours a week for my own lifting, and compete a few times a year locally and at the national level. I’m also a Level 2 USA Weightlifting Coach, and spend a few evenings and weekends coaching other athletes at Crossfit Finest in Metuchen.
What is 1 item on your bucket list?
It is a LONG list! But, right now I would like to qualify to compete in weightlifting at the Masters World Games in 2021, in Japan.
What would your superpower be?
Super-strength, of course!
What is a fun fact about you?
I am a huge sci-fi/fantasy geek! If I’m not reading a great fantasy novel, I’m catching up on sci-fi TV on Netflix.
