Soaring with Kindness - Folwell Falcon's Fifth Grade Tradition
For fourteen years the 5th grade teachers and their students have been visiting Bear Creek Services for an annual dinner and conversation. "As their teacher, we are not only teaching academics but...life skills," said Sarah Coffing, 5th grade teacher. The evening is built on a foundation of empathy, kindness, compassion, and conversation.
"We have great kids in Rochester and events like this are a celebration of that," added Michael Olson, 5th grade teacher. "The more opportunities to show empathy and learn about others, the better off that our entire community will be."

Serving up Super Snacks and After-School Meals
As educators, we all want what is best for our students both in and out of the classroom. When school is out, children need a safe place to be with structured activities, supportive adults, and good nutrition. For some kids, school lunch may be their last meal of the day. For this reason, RPS has been participating in the After-School Meal Program.
This school year, between September through February, we have served 21,435 after-school meals. We offer after-school meals at no cost to students 18 years of age and younger at six sites; John Marshall High School, Rochester Alternative Learning Center, John Adams Middle School, and Franklin, Gage, and Riverside Elementary Schools. Meals are offered every school day during the regular school year; with the exception of ALC and JA (their program is Monday - Thursday). After-School Meal Program is federally funded program through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
