Takin' It to the Schools
We have officially started our new school year of Takin' It to the Schools. we are so excited to be back in our schools. We were thrilled to be a part of the many Back to School Events this year. Tusky Valley Back to School Bash, Dover and Newcomerstown, just to name a few and one of the new ones was ProVia.We had a chance to connect with many new and former students. We would also like to welcome to our staff 2 new facilitators. Regina Statler will be our new Dover Prevention Educator and Allyson Wagner will be the educator for Tusky Valley and Garaway. Also one of our Youth Led girls, Kayli Smitley has taken on the responsibility of teaming with Regina to be our Takin' It to the Schools facilitators for Dover Middle School.
Youth Led Prevention
With the start of our new school year, Tuscarawas County Youth to Youth started prevention clubs in Claymont, Dover, Newcomerstown, Strasburg, Tuscarawas Central Catholic, and Tusky Valley high schools. Students were busy recruiting new members, running booths at back-to-school fairs, and presenting about the program. Each Youth to Youth club meets weekly or biweekly to plan initiatives to encourage dug-free living for Tuscarawas County youth.
September is a crucial time for goal setting, and Tuscarawas County Youth to Youth already has plans in the works. Some upcoming events in October include Red Ribbon Week and the Dover Halloween parade. Other areas of focus include the issue of teen vaping and mentoring. We are looking forward to the impact Youth to Youth members will make in their schools and communities this school year.
