In The Middle
A newsletter to and for the parents of CLMS - 8/16/19
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are hitting full stride now. The teaching staff comes back on full force on Wednesday and we will be off o the races.
If you are out and about buying school supplies and you want to slip a few extra items for donations to the school that would be great. Mrs. Tinjum wants me to thank those of you who donate as individuals or as part of your companies. It is so nice to have a few items to give our kids in need. Thanks for the support you have given and the support you continue to give.
After a week of thinking about it.... My biggest back to school tip is still to reestablish the routines. It goes better if the first day of school, is not the first day they needed to get up early.
We are all in this together,
Ralph Fairchild

Auditions will be the first week of school. Friday, September 6th from 4:30-7:00 and Saturday, September 7th from 9:00-11:00 at the PAC. It will be open house style, you only need to attend one night and don't need to stay the entire time.
To audition please prepare a song that best shows off your voice---and strong character choices. If you are not sure what to sing we will be sending out 2 options from the show shortly, they will also be posted on our webpage. You will also be asked to dance, so dress for movement. If there is time we will have you read from the script. Once you have completed those few things you are free to go.
Callbacks are Monday, September 9 from 4:30-8:00, by invitation. The list will be posted and emailed after auditions, along with the music to prepare for callbacks.
The mandatory parent meeting this year will be BEFORE auditions, Thursday, September 5th at 6:30pm. This is where you will get the important dates, sign up for volunteer opportunities and ask any questions about auditions or rehearsals that you have.
Lastly, we will be having auditions for 2 kids (one boy, one girl) to play Young Fiona & young Shrek. This will be Saturday at 10 am on Sept 7th at the PAC. Fionas should prepare a song and both should be prepared to read. We are looking for kids between the ages 10-14.
For further updates and information on characters visit our webpage. https://clhstheater.weebly.com/ .
Open House 8/26/19
The open house will be on August 26th, we hope you can make it. It is a great chance to let the teacher put a face with a name. It is a great opportunity for you to see the rooms and get a feel for where your child will be for next several months.
Is it your night to cook on the night of the open house? Do I have a deal for you..... Deutschland Meats will be serving as part of the Sr. Class Fundraiser.
This year we will have brats, hot dogs, and hamburgers available for $4.00 chips .50 and pop $1.00
Notice - This is different that it was in the mailing we sent home
Food will be served from 5:00-7:00

Schedules for 2019 - 2020
The schedules for the 19-20 school year are available on line. If you have your child log in to StudentVUE they can see lots of information. Most of it is very intuitive. The one that is not intuitive, is where to find their locker number and combination for their lockers. They say a picture is worth a thousand words so take a look at the picture and we will skip a thousand words.
(The little boxes that say "Data Removed" that is where your child's name would normally be. I just removed the student data for this demo.)
Back packs for 8th graders
The idea behind using a backpack in 8th grade is to carry your computer or chrome book. Over the past few years they have gotten way too big. The average of backpacks I weighed last year was about 17 pounds. One of the features of the BYOD program is to carry less, not more. Clutter, safety for staff and students, and better organization are all part of the reason we want you to use a simple drawstring bag to move from class to class.
We are going to encourage your kids to use the lockers more than the 8th graders have in the past.
A really bad idea.
What you ask yourself during the day.
This is the best idea.
Not a bad choice.
Small yet protective.
Imagine 34 of theese in your classroom.
Parent Volunteers
We will have a form for you to complete if you want to sign up to be a parent volunteer for our various activities. The form will be in the office - see Val Rogers or Courtney Daugs.
Our first event that we will for sure need help with is the fundraising party. That one takes place on October 3rd in the early afternoon. I know he needs help for this one.
I love TED Talks - this one is about bias. I enjoyed it even though it was a tough one to listen to.

How To Love: Healthy Relationships
October 2nd at 5:30 pm at the High School in the Lecture Hall
The goal of this workshop is to help high school students and young adults gain the knowledge they need to have safe and healthy relationships. High school students are at a vulnerable time in their lives, trying to fit in and wanting someone to care about them. As high school students begin dating, it is important that they understand the emotional complexities. This workshop is based on the OneLove program (The Escalation Workshop) that emphasizes how to recognize healthy versus unhealthy relationships and how to discuss relationship issues. Participants will watch Escalation, a film that follows a college-ages couple through a very sweet beginnings of their relationship and shows how unhealthy behaviors can escalate into abuse. The film will be followed by a guided discussion led by a trained facilitator. For more information visit: https://www.joinonelove.org.
October 7th at 9:00 am or 1:00 pm at the Wildcat Community Center
