The Skokie Home Scoop
March 14, 2022
Dear Skokie Community,
Today marks the beginning of our third trimester. This means our students taking the art/drama/music strand will be rotating into their third course for the year. Art and Music are highlighted this week in our Exploring Skokie section and you can read a little more about what the students have been creating and exploring in these classes.
Exploring Skokie
Art: Classes finished up the trimester with several fun projects, including these interactive artworks. Students were challenged to use S.T.E.A.M. skills to create an artwork that would turn viewers into participants. Check out these awesome creations!
Music: Fifth and sixth grade students wrapped up the music trimester last week by performing and presenting their final projects. Prior to that sixth graders engaged in a short ukulele/guitar unit and 5th graders spent a week or two drumming together as a group. It was a great end to the second trimester - here we go trimester 3!
Have a great week!

Track and Field
Track and Field season is set to begin on Tuesday, April 5. The team is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. We meet Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 3:30-4:30 in the playfield between Washburne and Skokie. Students need to be registered online and have a medical clearance form on file at school. Information for these two necessities can be found here. Students should bring comfortable running shoes, a water bottle, and layers of clothing appropriate for the weather. We will be almost exclusively outside for practices. A meet schedule will be sent to the team during the first week of practices. For more information, please contact Andy Becker at Andybecker@winnetka36.org

Resources for Families: Responding to Questions about War
We recognize that children and families may be grappling with how to discuss and answer questions about the events in Ukraine. Additionally, we recognize that some families may have personal connections to the situation. Please reach out to your child’s principal and teacher if there is a specific need to support your child. Additionally, the following resources may help parents who are looking for some guidance in discussions at home:

Talking to Your Kids About War: VeryWell Family explores ways families can speak with young people about war, including tips on sharing information and restricting media coverage.
