ZEUS
By: Emily Delgado
Thesis Statement
In Joel Skidmore’s Mythweb.com, Zeus is the most significant god in Greek Mythology because he is supreme and worshipful.
ZEUS BACKGROUND
Zeus was the youngest of his five siblings: Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter and Hera. His mother and father were Titans called Cronus and Rhea. Cronus wanted to swallow all his children but he did not get to swallow Zeus for his mother had hid him. After Zeus was grown enough he caused his father to throw up all his siblings. Fighting together with his siblings, Zeus was able to destroy Cronus and the other Titans, some were held in the underworld prison. The three brothers distributed parts of creation. Hades ruled the Underworld, Poseidon ruled the sea and Zeus rules the sky and also has ultimate authority on Mount Olympus and earth.
Introduction
Quote!
“When he had grown up, Zeus caused Cronus to vomit up his sisters and brothers, and these gods joined him in fighting to wrest control of the universe from the Titans and Cronus, their king,” (Skidmore 1).
Explanation
This shows that without Zeus freeing his siblings the Titans and Cronus would have easily defeated him and brought more chaos into the world. Zeus would have never became supreme ruler of the world and the people of earth would have no one to worship for leadership. Because he defeated his father all was peaceful as could be.
Concluding Statement
As you can see supreme and worshipful are two things Zeus surely is.
