Called to More: Using the Greatness within to serve others
“Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you will be your servant.”
In this Sunday’s Gospel, we hear that, “Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant”. The sons of Zebedee did not know what they were asking for in wanting to sit at Jesus’ right and left in the Kingdom. They were asking for privileges and honours. To share in God’s glory, we must be willing to share Jesus’ self-giving service to others without counting the cost or seeking glory and/or power.
We sometimes experience or see those in “power” as positions but Jesus showed us the way that true “power”, that is-the power (the greatness within-) is about presence, not position. It is about service.
Jesus came to serve and to love. He models for us that there is greatness in service. Our EICS division theme, "Called to More", reminds us that each of us are called to share our greatness within (our God-given gifts and talents) to serve others.
When we follow the path Jesus showed us; not counting the cost, not seeking our own glory, but seeking to serve with humility and love, is true greatness. This is our call to more.
Blessings,
Mrs. Bonnie-Lynne Boehm

Halloween Happenings at St. John: Friday, Oct. 29th
Specific Halloween information will be shared by your child’s teacher but here are a few school-wide Halloween happenings...
1. Classroom door decorating contest: Led by our grade 4 School Spirit Servant leadership Squad
2. Students and staff come dressed for the day on Friday, October 29th! (Kindergarten will have scheduled Halloween days that align with their calendar time). Typically we change into costumes after lunch. This year, please have children come dressed and ready for the day so parents can assist with any make up or tricky costume pieces at home before school. As per usual, students will be asked to please leave all props or weapons at home. Masks must continue to be worn with costumes, please consider this when planning for dress up.
3. Halloween Dance Party: School-wide but in each class, a short and fun, “Friday Halloween Dance Party”
4. School Council: Halloween Costume Swap: Friday, Oct. 22
To adhere to COVID-19 protocols and align with our Nutrition AP, there will be no distribution of shared food, mini treats, or other handing out of small items from classmates...however, we have a plan for each child to receive a little something...from our staff. Stay tuned!
Thank you parents for your continued support and for helping us infuse JOY for our kids! It's going to be "spooktacular"!
Parent School Council: Halloween Costume Swap
There will be a donation box outside of our front door for any families who wish to donate gently used, clean Halloween costumes for the swap. Students can also bring these to schools, a box will be located inside the school at the office. Donated costumes must be CLEAN, COMPLETE and on a hanger with size marked, and a plastic (grocery store style) bag attached. Leftover costumes will be donated.
On October 22, any students who wish to head to the gym during their classes' scheduled time can do so and select a costume of their choice. *This will be completely dependent on the number of costumes and sizes we receive*.
We are in need of a few parent volunteers who would be willing to facilitate the Costume swap on Friday, October 22 in the gym. One parent per time slot.
Please contact the office if you are able and willing to volunteer for this. Mrs. Boehm will contact you to confirm. *There are COVID protocols that must be aligned with for our parent volunteers.
Daily Masks and Water Bottles
Since the Thanksgiving weekend we have had an increase in the number of students that are requiring masks and water bottles. We have run out of our donated children’s masks, and may have to look at creating a fee to sustain this frequent supplementation of masks.
Please send with your child every day, 2 clean masks (in the event that a mask is lost, broken or becomes dirty) and a water bottle. Thank you very much for your support and understanding.
Please ensure that daily screening happens each morning before attending school
A great idea is to have an extra pair of pants, socks and undies in your child's backpack if ever they should need a back up.
Upcoming Conferences: Nov. 3rd & 4th
Virtual Parent-Student-Teacher conferences will take place on Wednesday, November 3rd from 3:30-6:30 and Thursday, November 4th from 4-7. Your child's Evidence of Learning journey will be shared with you the week prior to conferences. We are looking forward to connecting with you and your child to celebrate their learning progress and together, setting learning goals for their future growth.
