Community Newsletter: Making this our #BestYearYet
Being #BeBCMS
What does it really mean to #BeBCMS? I have thought a lot about that since we coined that our "hashtag" this summer. To #BeBCMS means to embody our PBIS expectations of: Be Respectful, Courteous, Manage Your Behavior, and STRIVE for ExExExCellence. But it also means being KIND and having an attitude of giving, serving, and gratitude. This November, our schoolhouse took the #BeBCMS mantra to new heights! We were able to raise OVER 4,000 non-perishable food items for Bryan County Family Connection. FOUR THOUSAND for families in OUR community! That is TRULY ELITE and absolutely what makes me one proud principal. When you can serve others and model what you know will inspire our children to be the very best citizens they can be: that is leadership! A HUGE thank you to our student council sponsors, Ms. Swindell and Ms. Romberg for mobilizing these efforts! TRULY inspiring!
This was by far the largest and most successful Food Drive we have had! This, on top of goal crushing our United Way campaign just reaffirm to me the amazing people that we have here serving our scholars! With that kind of passion for people, we can crush any and every goal we set for our schoolhouse!
Please make sure that you are signed up for my REMIND, as well as the grade level REMINDS so you don't miss a beat! I have found some glitches with the REMIND and some parents have signed up for the one I use for teachers and staff. I have removed you from that REMIND, so please make sure you are still linked in to the one that is called BCMS Community. The link is at the bottom of this newsletter.

Using MAP data to goal CRUSH!
Winter Map Testing Window: November 29th - December 20th
The MAP Window is here! We will begin testing WINTER map this week. We will be using our goal setting from WIN to track these next four weeks as we prepare to test in Reading, Language Usage, and Math. I can't wait to see how much we have grown! If you would like to look at your child's MAP reports and have us discuss it with you, please email me! MAP reports give us lots of great information about the domains of learning and where we can enrich and remediate our scholars.
Mr. Scott, Mr. Wright, and myself will be meeting with each scholar beginning 11/27 to talk to them about their GMAS reports, Lexile (reading score), and MAP reports. We will also begin goal setting with each scholar. It is so critical that our scholars KNOW where they are academically so they can set an achievable goal and work to get there! We are very excited about empowering them with this data and knowledge!
Notes from Ms. Raeburn
November is a month of reflection and gratefulness. I hope you all have a wonderful and restful break with your children and your family. We will be ready to get back into the swing of things on Monday! We will have four weeks of instruction before we end the semester and have a nice Holiday Break. We are very focused during these last weeks of the semester on increasing our Literacy. Remember, Literacy touches every content, every subject, everything we do! We want to grow our scholars to be the very best they can be, and that begins by making sure they have elite literacy skills!
In those four weeks, we have LOTS of instruction and learning that will be taking place! Please make sure that you are up to date with all the latest information of our BCMS athletic events and other after school activities. December is going to be a VERY busy time for us at BCMS and we will be excited to highlight and show off all the amazing things that are happening in our schoolhouse!
Thank you for being proactive and for supporting our school and our passion work! I am proud to be your principal and would love to hear from you! If you have a concern or a comment, please do not hesitate to email or call me: eraeburn@bryan.k12.ga.us or 912-626-5050 or 912.255.0630.
Book Challenge!
I am about to begin my new read "Turtles All The Way Down" by John Green! We have additional copies of this book in our Media Center! For every scholar that reads this book and comes to give me a book review, they will earn 25$ in PBIS bucks AND their name will be entered into a drawing to win a FREE, DELIVERED by me, McDonald's LUNCH!

Whatever I Need! WIN time
WIN period is an elite time for our scholars to work on goal setting, grade checking, acceleration of curriculum, and enrichment. Please ask your child what goals they are working on during WIN time! The more we talk about goals and we model that having goals is critical, the more they will work to achieve them! Clubs is running great! I love seeing all the scholars discovering new interests and passions!
We added more structured elements to WIN time to make sure that we are targeting the areas of growth for our scholars. We will do a progress monitoring check in WIN on 12/12! We have our data from our short form MAP test that was taken on 11/7 and 11/8. Scholars will work through those data points this week. If we can show 30% or more growth as a schoolhouse, we will add an additional CLUB day to January!
Monday- Goal setting and Grade Checking- Goals are set based on Reading RIT MAP scores
Tuesday- Enrichment and Remediation Rotations begin! Short form data is ready!
