Honoring the Past...Inspiring the Future!
Week of August 6 - 10, 2018
Universal Screening
Sawnee’s Universal Screening window will open on Monday morning and we hope to wrap up by the end of the day Friday.
Just like last year:
· KK & 1st – You’ll bring your classes to the main hallway (near lost and found) at your assigned time. If we’re ahead of schedule, we may come get you a few minutes earlier. You may want to bring a little activity to keep your kiddos busy while they wait (coloring page, crossword puzzle, book, etc.).
· 2nd & 3rd – We’ll come to you! Please have a desk and two chairs set up outside of your classroom, along with an updated class roster.
4th & 5th Grade Teachers

Review from Grade Level Meetings
EIP & Shine Time
- No EIP on Tuesdays! - This will be used for paperwork, progress monitoring, IST/SST meetings, etc.
- Consider how SST kids will be served during Shine Time on Tuesdays since they won’t be assigned to a group like their peers.
- EIP and Shine Time will start on Wednesday, September 5th
- We’re looking for one RTI Team Leader for each grade level. Please send your representative’s name to Karen and Kayla.
- Pull the team together, look at data, cross-reference the Shine Time group rosters.
TKES
- New process, different platform.
- Begin thinking about personal PLG/PLP. Complete Goal and Reflection sheet (in itslearning).
PLC Meetings (Tuesdays)
- Data, PLGs, PL, Choice Boards
Itslearning
- Link in the planner, not in a separate folder.
Homework
- IF you send, make sure it’s short, relevant, and something they can do along with all of the other extracurriculars in their busy lives.
Safety
- ALL fire drills will be announced.
- IF a fire alarm goes off that has NOT been announced, DO NOT leave the classroom until you hear an announcement to evacuate.
- We’ll have two fire drill practices in August
- Keith will meet with the teams to discuss code red procedures.
- We’ll have one code yellow → code red practice at the end of August
Curriculum Nights
- August 9th - KK, 4th, and 5th: 6:30-7:30
- August 14th - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd: 6:30-7:30
Overbooked (A Sawnee Reading List)
First up is Cahill!
I am going to recommend three books that I read this summer:
Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan - this easy read provides a glimpse into the mega-wealthy and elite families in Singapore. The story is told through shifting points of view and provides insight into an unfamiliar locale
On Second Thought by Kristan Higgins - two sisters are brought together by loss and find themselves (and each other) in the process
In Farleigh Field by Rhys Bowen - this work of historical fiction is based around a mystery (one of my favorite genres) within aristocratic British families during the beginnings of WWII
