Character Strong: Responsibility
Responsibility is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that help students Be Strong.
Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like focusing, organizing, and goal setting.
As a family, we encourage you to review Responsibility as a family. One suggestion is to choose 1 household chore for your student to complete. Maybe it is washing the dishes, cleaning their room, or unloading the groceries. Whatever it is use it as an opportunity to practice being responsible.
Panorama SEL Survey for Students
Dear Families,
We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. As you may already be aware, building our social-emotional learning skills is an important goal for our school this year. Over the next several weeks, students and teachers will participate in several exercises to better understand these concepts and to reflect on how they perceive these skills in themselves.
We will be asking for your child to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey they will be completing at school. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete.
The survey content will ask students to self-reflect on self management, grit, self efficacy, effort, learning strategies and emotional regulation.
We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to these surveys will be completely confidential.
If you have any questions about the SEL survey , please don’t hesitate to contact Kelly Parsons at (360) 629-1246 kparsons@stanwood.wednet.edu

Title I & LAP Information for Families
Community Facilities Advisory Committee Invitation
This year, the Stanwood-Camano School District will form a Capital Facilities Advisory Committee (CFAC). This team’s purpose is to affirm that public schools belong to the entire community, and funding for capital improvements is generated through voter-approved bond measures. Also included in the team’s work are recommendations for how families are assigned to particular schools based on where families reside, school capacity, and immediate and projected enrollment.
Community members play a key role in developing our long-term capital facilities plan and providing input on facility use to ensure the community's values and priorities are accurately represented.
If you are interested in joining this committee or would like to know more, please complete this form.
PTA School Store and Popcorn/Ice Cream Sales
Wednesdays will be popcorn and ice cream days. If your student is planning on getting popcorn or ice cream they fill out the form and turn it in. Payments must be maid in advance as they will not be able to accept cash at the point of sale at this time. If your balance gets low the PTA will send out new forms so you can add additional funds.
WATCH DOGs
Fathers and father figures,
The Watch DOGs program was created by the National Center for Fathering. Its purpose is to increase male involvement in schools and provide positive male role models for students. The program is a chance for fathers or father figures (grandfathers, uncles, etc.) to take an active part in their students' day. The program invites “Dads” to spend a day or half day at school volunteering in various ways. The Watch DOGs help with everything from welcoming students in the morning, mentoring students one on one with reading or math games, helping out at recess playing games, patrolling the campus and hallways, eating lunch with students, and spending time in your student’s classroom. Students and staff look forward to our Watch DOGs each and every day. Their presence and support for our school is greatly appreciated. For more information about Watch DOGs please watch the video links below. In order to serve as a WATCH Dog please complete the volunteer training and background check. If you need any assistance with completing the background check, volunteer training, or how to sign up please contact our school office.
WATCH DOGs Sign-Up
We have decided to jump right in with our WATCH DOG program at Elger Bay this year. If you are interested in signing up to volunteer please use the link below. Once we have got things up and running we will hold an event with more information and some of our WATCH DOGs who have volunteered can share about our program and answer questions. Please let the office know if you have any questions or need help signing up for a day.
Checking Out Students Early
We are asking that if parents can't pick up in the office before 3:15 that they go through the pick up line. The staff are all involved with the afternoon dismissal, including the office staff, so calling for students after 3:15 can be challenging. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding during student dismissal.

COVID Health Guidelines
The Washington State Department of Health has issued updated COVID-19 health and safety guidance for schools this fall. Following these safety measures reduces the spread of COVID-19 in our school community.
Health and safety requirements for this fall:
Students and staff who show symptoms of COVID-19 are required to stay home, or go home, if they become ill at school. Individuals with COVID-19 symptoms must have a test to rule out COVID-19 before returning to school.
Students, staff, and families seeking testing should contact their schools directly. All COVID-19 testing at school will still require paper or digital consent to be signed or on file.
Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 are required to isolate themselves at home for 5 full calendar days. After day 5, if symptoms improve and they have had no fever for the past 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications, students and staff can come back to school.
It is recommended, but not required, that students and staff returning to school after their 5 days of isolation:
wear a well-fitted mask from days 6 to 10, and
remain masked for sports and other extracurricular activities on days 6 to 10.
Students and staff who test positive after 5 days of isolation must stay at home for the full 10-day isolation period.
We will continue to communicate cases and outbreaks to families and staff in our weekly COVID-19 dashboard. The dashboard will be updated weekly on Wednesdays. These requirements are in place for all public and private K-12 schools and childcare facilities in Washington state. Schools and childcare facilities are required by state law to follow these guidelines.
Families are encouraged to test as needed at home. Students, staff, and families may access tests at no cost from all of our schools. Additionally, in Washington state, you can receive free self-tests from Say Yes! COVID Test program. Most insurance covers the costs of up to 8 self-tests per individual per month.
COVID-19 vaccinations remain the best protection for everyone against hospitalization and severe disease from COVID-19. The COVID-19 vaccine is now available for children 6 months and older. Booster doses are also available for children 5 years and older. You are encouraged to vaccinate your children if they are eligible, in consultation with your healthcare provider.
