Principal Welch's Weekly Update
April 29th, 2024
April 28th – May 3rd, 2024
Can you believe this week it’s May, already? Time is flying by! There are now only three full weeks of school left before the shortened final exam week! For seniors, only 15 days of school remaining!!!! It is important that all students round up books, computers, uniforms, instruments, etc. to ensure they have everything ready to turn in at the end of the year, so they are not fined for missing items. It is equally important for students, especially graduating seniors, to ensure they do not have any outstanding fines/fees in the cafeteria, library or finance office. To check your balances, you can log in to your student’s finance portal at https://az-tucson.intouchreceipting.com/
Final Site Council Meeting for 2023-2024
On May 6th at 3:30 PM, we will be holding our final Rincon Site Council meeting of the 2023-24 school year. I would like to extend an invitation to all to attend via Zoom and provide you with the opportunity to suggest any topics you would like us to formally address during the meeting.
If you have any agenda items, please take a moment to respond to this email by sending your proposed agenda items to marc.zelov@tusd1.org at your earliest convenience. This will allow us to incorporate them into the agenda in a timely manner.
Site Council is looking for a new secretary as our current secretary will be stepping down from that role. Please ask around as well in case somebody new might be interested. Thank you, Darla, for your commitment to secretarial excellence over the past several years.
Thank you, and I look forward to your participation in shaping our upcoming meeting agenda.
All are welcome.

Advanced Placement Testing Information
Registration, Cancellation & Payments
As of March 1st, there are no more opportunities to register or cancel an AP exam. If you did not cancel an AP Exam by March 1, and no longer wish to take the exam/don’t show up to test, you will still owe the full exam fee ($98) - at least go try, AP scores can never hurt you and/or your future endeavors!
If a payment was not made for your AP Exam by March 1, and you did not cancel, YOU STILL HAVE AN EXAM ORDERED. Please pay for your exam ASAP and no later than the exam date. All payments can be made in person in the finance office or through your student’s finance portal: https://az-tucson.intouchreceipting.com/. If you have questions about paying or logging in to this portal, call the finance office and ask for the Finance Manager, Cat Lopez: (520) 232-5613. You can also use the portal to confirm exam payments by logging in and reviewing “Receipts” or “Payment History.” All AP fees are NONREFUNDABLE because they are eligible tax-credit.
Please refer to your/your student’s MyAP CollegeBoard account to confirm AP exam registration. If you are registered in your account, you have an exam. If you are not registered in your account, you do not have an exam and there is no way to order an exam at this point this year.
Testing Locations & Check In
The date and time of each AP exam can be viewed in your MyAP CollegeBoard account. You can also view a breakdown of each exam on the College Board’s AP Courses & Exams Page (click on the course name, then click on “The Exam”).
All AP Exams, including those with accommodations, will take place at Santa Rita High School this year EXCEPT AP Spanish Language, AP French Language, AP German Language, and AP Chinese Language - these exams will take place at the locations indicated on the Testing Locations & Check In Times link found below. As previously communicated, students/families are responsible for providing their own transportation to the testing locations.
Testing Locations & Check In Times
It is vital that students arrive at their testing location at the check times listed in the document above and not the exam start time. Students who are not at the testing location at the indicated check in time risk not being admitted to the test (no make-ups tests are accommodated for being late to check in).
Drop Off, Pick Up & Parking
Drop Off & Parking - SANTA RITA
Students must be dropped up and picked up at Santa Rita High School via the entrance to the parking lot off of S. Pantano Rd. Students driving themselves will also use this entrance to park in the parking lot. Please do not enter near the security shack), there will be signs directing you from Pantano Rd. to the correct parking lot.
Drop Off & Parking - PUEBLO & UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA
If taking exams at these locations, please check your email closer to the test date for communication from the UHS AP Coordinator Team.
Pick Up
Exam lengths to estimate pick up times can be found on the College Board’s AP Courses & Exams Page (click on the course name, then click on “The Exam”). Please be sure to include about an additional hour to hour and a half to the total testing time to accommodate for exam administration & tasks, and be flexible - some exams will run long and this is out of our control.
What to Bring to Test Day
What to Bring:
- Photo ID (school ID, state ID, driver’s license, passport, PRINTED page from Synergy with photo & name)
- (2) #2 wooden pencils AND (2) blue or black pens
- Watch (no smart watches are permitted and watch must NOT make any noise)
- Approved calculator (*only for certain exams - review AP Courses & Exams Page to know which exams they are permitted, and which calculators are approved)
- Layers for warm/cold building temperatures
- Snacks/water, or lunch if you have back-to-back exams (please note that unless approved via accommodations, students can only access snacks/water during designated break times)
What NOT to Bring:
- Phones, computers, or any electronic devices/equipment (all phones brought will be collected)
- Full Backpack
- Books, reference guides, notes, compasses, protractors, mechanical pencils, pencils that are not No. 2, correction fluid, dictionaries, highlighters, or colored pencils
- Ear plugs/headphones/airpods
Late Testing
Students who have two exams on the same date AND same time have already had one of their exams moved to late testing. Please check your MyAP CollegeBoard account for your specific exam dates, any late testing dates will be reflected here. Students will be emailed about late test locations & check in times.
The only other reasons late testing is permitted are the following. If any of these circumstances pertain to you, please email the UHS AP Coordination team with documentation and we will assist with late testing registration. Please note that late testing occurs ONLY on May 22-24.
- Academic contest/event
- Athletic contest/event
- Disabilities accommodations issues
- Graduation ceremony
- Religious holiday/observance
- Serious injury, illness, or family tragedy
- Student court appearance
Having two exams on the same day, but at different times (one at 8:00am and one at 12:00pm) does not constitute late testing. The only exception to this is the U.S. History exam due to the volume of testers (anyone with Macroeconomics has had Macroeconomics moved to late testing already).
Additional Communications & Steps
The UHS AP Coordination Team may send students & parents specific information about individual exams in the coming weeks leading up to AP testing. Be sure to check your emails frequently and review anything received about AP testing prior to exam day!
In order to correctly receive scores in a timely manner, it is also important that students ensure the following information is correct in their College Board account:
→ Email address: this needs to be a NON TUSD email address, otherwise you will not receive important AP emails!
→ Student ID: make sure that your matric number is correct and only contains 10 numbers (it should not be your full
TUSD email address)
→ School code: make sure that if you are a current RHS, your school code is listed as 030502.
