Carus School News
Hello Carus Community,
We've survived a busy week at Carus- bit of snow, a two hour delay, and a large Principal announcement. We're excited to be beginning our Artist in Residence program this week. Third through 6th grade parents- be sure to ask your children about it!
Artist in Residence
Artist in Residence is starting this week for 3rd-6th graders!
Today, 3rd through 6th grade students got an introduction to their artist in residence for this year. They will be working on stop motion with artist David Loitz. Starting next week, Mr. David will begin working with individual classes as they work in small groups on animating a story about their learning for the next 4 weeks. It should be a fun challenge where students will learn the art of telling a story using digital media. Artist in residence is a unique program where students get to experience an area of art that they might not otherwise be exposed to, via an expert in the field. This is an annual program that is paid for by the PTA using funds raised from the jog-a-thon. Our kindergarten through second grade students will begin their residency in April!

We are moving along in our Erin's Law Child Protection Lessons across the grade levels. In Lesson 2, students are learning about the three ways to stay safe.
1- Recognize: Notice your surroundings, pay attention to warning signs in your body, ask yourself, "is this safe?" and "what's the rule?"
2- Refuse: Be assertive, don't give in to peer pressure, walk away, and say words that mean "no"
3- Report: Talk to a grown up that you can trust, make sure you memorize phone numbers of safe adults you can call or text if you need help, who are the grown ups at school and at home you can report to if something is unsafe?
