Beachmont School News
April 2024
Principal's Message
Beachmont Families,
We have officially started MCAS testing at the Beachmont School(see below for schedule). Our students are prepared and will make us proud! We hope students all get a good night's sleep prior to taking the exam. The MCAS continues to be an accountability measure for our school and is a tremendous group effort between students, staff, and families. Good luck to all!
March was a busy month at the Beachmont. On March 1st, we celebrated Read Across America Day. Students were able to participate in a variety of activities throughout the day. Mayor Keefe and other special guests read to various grade-levels, promoting the importance of reading in our daily lives. We ended the day with our older grades partnering with our younger grades to do fun literacy-based activities. We also had a very special visit from Jiji the ST Math Penguin!
On March 20th, we held Family Conferences. This was a great opportunity to discuss student progress and set some goals for the remaining three months of the school year. Thank you to all that came out. Trimester 2 Report Cards were emailed home on March 15th.
On March 22nd, we held our annual Beachmont College and Career Day. We had a variety of guest speakers talk to all grades about their educational journeys and to give a glimpse into different career paths. We ended the day with a joyful school-wide pep rally. Over the next few months, we want to reiterate the importance of attendance. Please make sure your child is attending school consistently and on time. We have a lot of fun events including field trips, art show, spring concert, culture night, Fun Day, and our 5th Grade Moving On Ceremony. We dont want students to miss out! In early May, we will be sending home a family survey where we want to hear from all families. This feedback will help us as we begin to plan for the 2024-2025 school year.
We are still confirming dates for the last day of school. Tentative date is June 17th. We will also have more information about summer programming, in the coming weeks. We won't be able to host our summer program at the Beachmont because we will be putting in a new HVAC system. Our Summer Program will most likely be held at the Paul Revere School(395 Revere St, Revere, MA 02151). Information about who should attend the summer program will sent out by early May.
Please do not hesitate to reach out!
Mr. Freisen

Afterschool Bookworms and Lending Library
We have successfully implemented our After School Bookworms. This will take place in our library from 2:50-3:30pm. This is an opportunity for students and families to do some quiet literacy-based activities in our library space. For the month of April we will host Afterschool Bookworms on Wednesday, April 24th.
Also, in our Main Lobby, we recently have put in a "Beachmont Free Library". We encourage students and families to "take a book and/or give a book."
Solar Eclipse Monday, April 8th
There is quite a bit of excitement around viewing the solar eclipse that is set to occur on Monday, April 8th! Here is a safety sheet from NASA and some important safety tips that you may wish to review with your child.
DO
- Use eclipse glasses or solar viewers that meet the ISO 12312-2 standards (sometimes written as ISO 12312-2:2015). Do not stare continuously at the sun. Take breaks and give your eyes a rest.
- Use your hands to cast shadows on the ground. Cross your hands with fingers slightly spread to create a waffle pattern. Look down and you will see the spaces between your fingers project a shadow image of the sun in a crescent shape during the partial eclipse stages.
- Look at shadows on the ground, such as beneath a leafy tree, during the partial eclipse to see the crescent sun shadows projected by the spaces between the leaves.
DON'T
- Do not look at the sun directly. Do not view through regular sunglasses. No matter how dark they are, they will not protect your eyes.
- Do not use damaged eclipse sunglasses or solar viewers. If they are torn, scratched or punctured, do not use them and throw them away. If the filters are coming out of their frames, discard them.
- Do not use homemade filters.
- Do not view through welder's glass. The glass in most welding helmets is not strong enough.
- Do not view through your camera viewfinder.
- Do not view through a telescope without the proper solar filter. Do not view the telescope using your eclipse sunglasses either.
- Do not view through binoculars
