Science Fair: The Science Fair will be on February 25th. Students that chose to participate must return their Application Form to Mr. Ehert by January 15th. We will visit the Science Fair on February 25th and parents and families are invited to attend the Science Fair that evening. Students involved in the Science Fair will be in the APR from 12:30-3:00 on the 25th with Mr. E.
Schedule Update:
We will be having Health Class with Mr. Foti on Wednesdays and PE on Fridays for the next few months.
Spanish
Please bring in a list of dates/events for a calendar on Monday. The students will be creating in Spanish Class.
Reading
Students have been reading independently all year. We are enjoying the classroom library, reading on computers and iPads. Feel free to bring in a favorite book for your independent reading book box!

Literacy
This week, we are going to answer the question, “How do you know if something is a fact or an opinion?” First, we will read an Informational Text called Jellies. We will then read another called Meet Norbert Wu. As we read, we will keep talking about the Big Idea, “Nature can teach us many things.”
Target Vocabulary: millions, choices, drift, simple, weaker, wrapped, disgusting, decide
Phonics Skills: Contractions

Vocabulary Strategy: Base words and suffixes: -er -est
Comprehension Skill: Identifying statements as fact or opinion.
Comprehension Strategy: Monitor/clarify – Good readers monitor their understanding. While reading, they ask, “Does this make sense?” If it does not, they go back to clarify.
WEB Project
The Second Marking Period WEB Project will be a Biography poster. It will include a timeline, portrait and paragraph about a person. Students can get biography books in class or from our school library. Look for information to come home this week!
Writing
We will write a movie or TV review, a written argument and a persuasive friendly letter this week.
Social Studies
Our Earth
This week we will begin Unit 3 of our Social Studies curriculum, Looking At the Earth. We will explore the idea that geography of the Earth varies from place to place. The students will identify and describe the physical characteristics of various landforms, compare the features of different kinds of land, and distinguish regions of the United States. We will identify and learn about different landforms and bodies of water. We will learn about the 7 continents and the oceans of the world.
