Conditions for Learning 2022 Parent/Guardian Letter
Dear BCSD Families:
All Iowa public school districts are required to administer an annual school climate and culture survey to students in grades 3-12 called Conditions for Learning Survey (Survey). The Survey is designed to measure their engagement in school, safety and the overall learning environment. This school year, parents and guardians of students in preschool through grade 12 will have an opportunity to participate in a Parent/Guardian Conditions for Learning Survey as well. The Survey contains similar items to those on the Student Survey, focusing on areas that range from student safety, to positive adult and student relationships, to school rules and how they are enforced.
The Parent/Guardian Survey will be accessible from now to April 29, 2022 online. There is a version of the survey for students in grades 3-5 and one for students in grades 6-12. We encourage you to complete a survey for each building your children attend, including both the 3-5 and the 6-12 survey for Boone Middle School if you have children in both 5th grade and 6-8th grade. Directions and the link to access the survey can be found here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/10TA4azXZtd3N4ykou1FDclH8sXCPPGZ1/view
No person is required to complete the survey and participation is voluntary. A copy of the items on the Survey is available by request. Responses to the online Parent/Guardian Survey are confidential and the results are completely anonymous. No names are recorded, and no identifying information is attached to specific responses. The results of the Survey will be provided back to the school to be used with the Student Survey results for identifying areas of strengths, and areas for improvement.
Thank you for your involvement in Boone CSD to improve conditions for learning here and throughout the state.
Sincerely,
Julie Trepa

Last weekend Toreador Theatre presented “Sherwood” and did an amazing job!
This past weekend, members of student council went to Linwood Creek and cleaned up!
Last week, Boone EDGE students were the keynote presenters at the annual meeting for the chamber of commerce. Students spoke with members of the Boone Community about their projects or internships while answering questions. Senior Bria Schwind gave the keynote speech to all members. We wanted to give a huge thank you to the Chamber for having us!
Senior, Hannah Good has a heart for giving back to others and ensuring equity is always considered. Her EDGE opportunities have centered around giving back whether it be through the year including interning with Habitat for Humanity or a call with HyVee Corporate's equity and diversity coordinator. Her most recent project revolves around supporting young people with scholarships to attend Y Camp in the summer. Hannah is also working on a future event for this so stay tuned!
Hannah has been going to camp for the past 12 years and for 11 of those years she was the kid that was sponsored by others to help get her there. While being at camp she made many friends and memories that then can be passed onto others. If you'd like to donate to her cause today, follow the link below!

The Hooper Scoopers are back for the 2021-2022 DMACC Men's Basketball Season!
Your defending National Champion DMACC Bears would like to invite all 2nd - 8th grade students to sign up for the chance to be a Ball Boy/Girl for the Men's Basketball Team. There will be an opportunity for 4 students to participate at each home game. Each participant will receive a t-shirt to wear during the game that they will get to keep. They will also receive free entry into the game along with 4 passes for family/friends to get into that same game. Please arrive at each game 20 minutes (times on sign up reflect this adjustment) before tip off to receive t-shirt and instructions. We will meet in the upstairs weight-room, above the gymnasium. Finally, a parent/guardian must be present with each participant.
Pease sign up early as we anticipate this being a popular opportunity, and space is limited! Limit two games per student per season. When signing up, please be sure to include the school, grade, and shirt size (Youth Medium - Adult Large) of the participant. Go Bears!!!

YSS Mentoring Program - Update and Volunteer Opportunity!
The YSS Mentoring Program is looking forward to a return to in-person mentoring for the 2021-2022 school year! The program matches students in grades K-8th with a trained volunteer mentor once per week during the school day. These weekly meetings provide a positive, caring role model to eat lunch with, play games and simply talk about the student's interests and ideas.
Information and volunteer applications can be found at https://www.yss.org/program/mentoring.To learn how your child can become a participant, contact Tracy at boonementoring@yss.org or Heidi at hchopskie@yss.org.
Free School Breakfast and Lunch for all Students for the 2021-2022 school year
Tasty Toreador Meals - Supply Chain Issues
• This school year, thanks to federal pandemic waivers, all students will be eligible for free meals, regardless of family income.
• School meal programs nationwide are experiencing many of the same supply chain issues that have impacted restaurants and grocery stores throughout the pandemic.
• Our school nutrition team is committed to ensuring students continue to have access to healthy meals each school day.
• Just as families have to make substitutions on grocery lists, schools will have to make some last-minute changes to our regular menus, based on availability.
• We hope parents and students will be patient as we sort through these supply chain issues.
• We may not have the same menu choices that we typically offer our students, but we’ll be sure that all students are nourished and ready to learn.
*Reminder: For students bringing a sack lunch and wanting school milk, there will be a .50 cent charge per carton.

Athletics Registration
Toreador Families,
Our "Online Athletics Registration" is live and active for the 2021-22 School Year (link is below). Please take the time to read through the information, and fill out the forms for your student. All students involved in District-Sponsored Athletics in grades 7-12 will need a completed online athletics registration on file, along with a current physical form (physicals are valid for 13 months after the date of the physical). There is a place within the registration to upload the completed physical form.
Completion of the Registration/Physical is not required for the attendance at any summer camps that may be offered. However, the Athletics Registration and Physical Form must be completed and on file before a student may physically participate in practice this Fall. For High School, this starting date is Monday August 9th. Middle School practices will begin a couple weeks later near the first day of school.
