Mexico Middle School & High School Students Attend Youth in Government in Jefferson City
Youth In Government's motto is "Democracy must be learned by each generation." At state convention, each year's kids from across the state literally take over the government. They write/debate bills, are lawyers for trials, are members of the press core or video news, as juniors can run for office, which they would serve their senior year.
The 8th grade program gives the kids a chance to get insight into these programs so that they can make a choice when they are in high school.
This weekend our students had solution based discussions for problems in their schools/communities states, wrote and debated bills, and were lawyers in a trial.
Each year the Youth In Government staff selects students from each program who are exemplary. This year MMS students received several awards:
Amelia Runge was chosen as Outstanding Statesmen.
Tyler Quinlan (and his team - one from SBS and one from Jefferson City) received Best Bill
Abby Oetting received Best Closing Argument in the judicial trials
Also this year the Youth Governor signed three 8th grade bills into law, and an MMS student was on each of those teams

Town Hall meeting recap
A little over one-hundred administrators, Board Members, staff and patrons were on hand Monday night at a town hall meeting. The meeting was held in the Middle School Cafeteria. Mr. Freeman addressed the group and discussed the current budget and potential shortfalls. Groups discussed a list of possible ways to save money that was compiled after five meetings with teachers and staff at the schools.
Hard copies of old backgound checks to be destroyed
The District is updating their Administrative Procedures regarding background checks. We have learned that they are not a document that we are required to keep. Effective this year, background checks will only be kept on file for one year. Each September we will notify staff via email and/or Bulldog Bytes that they are going to be shredded and what date the shredding will take place. We will provide you a copy of the background check if requested. You do not get to keep the original.
If there is a background check on file for you from any prior year until August 2015, they will be destroyed on November 30, 2016. Please note you will need to come in person and put in writing that you would like a copy of your background check.
