6th Grade Night at RMS
On behalf of our staff at Richards Middle School, we would like to formally invite you and your child to Richards Middle School on the evening of Thursday, February 22nd at 6:00pm. The purpose of this evening is to introduce you and your child to their future school, a glimpse into the selective curricular courses we offer, and a tour of the 7" grade subject areas/selective designated classrooms. Our sixth-grade parents and guardians will meet in the RMS gymnasium to start their 6th grade night while our sixth-grade students will meet in the cafeteria. Our parents and guardians of students who have IEP’s can visit our ASC room in room 105 from 5:30pm-5:50pm to meet with members of SE team.
Our 6th grade night presentation will start promptly at 6:00pm. Our parents’ presentation will be
in the gym to hear an opening message from our RMS admin. team, listen to informational
presentations, meet our core subject academic department heads, and have an opportunity to
see our 7th grade academic classrooms. Our students will be grouped by schools in the
cafeteria to start their presentations of our selectives offerings. Our goal is to provide you and
your child with an understanding of our RMS vision and mission statements through our
academic and social emotional supports and experiences.
Our RMS counselors will visit each elementary classroom beginning Monday, February
26th for the 2023-24 school year and Wednesday, February 28th to assist students in filling
out their schedule forms. Students are to return their schedule requests to their 6th-grade
teacher no later than Friday, March 1st.
Counselors will again help with inputting the course requests at the elementary schools
beginning March 4th through March 6th.
Upper Elementary Visits the Theater!
On Monday, February 12th our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders enjoyed Fraser High School's production of Little Mermaid. It was an incredible production made all the more special by our own students, Jessica Balkai, Alivia Bookmiller, Ava Colley, Faith Coppens, Ruby Magnotte, Addisyn Manor, Olivia McColley, Eleanor Podgorski, Sawyer Sarcoma, and JaLena Washington performing.
Candy Grams
Our student council had a great time selling and distributing candy grams for Valentine's Day.This year all funds raised from Candy Gram sales will go to Luciana's Legacy in honor of a Fraser family's child. This organization supports families in need of assistance with medical bills in Luciana's memory. Thank you, student council for spreading kindness and raising money for a great cause!
ATTENDANCE TROPHY
Regular school attendance is very important for academic success, social development, habit formation, and preparation for the future. We love seeing our students everyday at Disney! To help support and encourage positive attendance, our PBIS team has started a traveling Disney Attendance trophy! This trophy, made especially for Disney Elementary, travels weekly to the classroom with the highest attendance rate. This past week, our attendance trophy visited Mrs. Sylvesters class as they had an attendance rate of 98%! Way to go, Mrs Sylvesters 1st grade class!!!!
Kids Heart Challenge
On Friday, we officially kicked off our Kids Heart Challenge with a welcome assembly. How can students help?
- Start by downloading the Kids Heart Challenge App or by clicking here to register
- Complete Finn's Mission: learn TWO lifesaving skills as a family
- Become a Heart Hero: send texts via the App to invite friends and family asking for support
Get to know this year's Heart Hero's by clicking here!
❤️ We have raised $2,240.92 so far which puts us at 57% of our goal ($4,000)
💜 14 students/grown ups have completed Finn's mission! This is double the amount of last year, but 4 more students would enter the school into a raffle for $10,000 in gym equipment. Also, each student who completes this is entered to win two tickets to next year's Super Bowl as well.
💙 The current lead fundraisers are: Jameson M, Ella P, and Braydon M
Thank you so much for supporting our school and the American Heart Association!
1st Grade Celebrates 100 Days of School
Since the start of the school year, first grade has been tracking how many days we’ve been in school. Each day, during our morning meeting, we add a one to our most recent tens frame and count how many days we’ve been in school. We also update our place value chart, complete a number bond for the current day, and apply our math skills to determine one less, one more, ten less, and ten more. This month something very exciting happened: we got to record the 100TH DAY OF SCHOOL! It was exciting to bundle our ten groups of 10 to make our first group of 100, and to add a third number to our place value chart! We also recognized how proud we are of all the hard work, teamwork, and growth we have made in 100 days together.
To commemorate this special day, Mrs. Pozolo & Mrs. Sylvester’s 1st grade classes had a special 100th day of school celebration! Students participated in reading, writing, and math activities created around the 100th day of school. Students listened to a special 100’s day story and completed a silly writing piece about what life might be like when they are 100 years old. In the afternoon, students organized fruit loops by 10’s all the way to 100 to create a special necklace (which they really enjoyed munching on, too!)! Of course, the highlight of the day was seeing our first graders dressed like they were 100 years old! Even with wrinkles & gray hair, their cuteness is off the charts! What a special and memorable day here in first grade! J

Canvas- Parent Access
All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas LMS. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.
Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account. All sign up information and resources are provided on the Fraser website.
Important reminders when using Canvas:
- Canvas works best in Chrome
- Please do not install the Canvas app (for parents or students). We are not supporting it as our staff and students are utilizing the web-based version of Canvas and it looks and works differently.
- If you signed up and paired with your students last year, you still have access to those students and their new courses this year.
- If you need to add more students to your account this year, please follow the directions provided below.
- If you have forgotten your password, you can use the Forgot Password? link on the parent sign in page. Then, enter the email address you used to set up the account to receive a password reset email.
- If you have forgotten the email you used, please reach out to Kim Keith, Kimberly.keith@fraserk12.org, for additional assistance.
