March 22nd, 2024 Principal's Message
Hi Blevins Families,
I hope your spring break was fun and restful! I want to take a moment to recognize that this week may have been an anxious one with district-wide conversations happening related to various scenarios for addressing enrollment decreases in PSD. If you haven't yet seen the discussed scenarios, they are on this webpage.
You have a voice in this process. Because of that, I believe it is important to highlight a few aspects of Blevins that are highly unique to us and beneficial to our students.
Blevins is the only Project-Based Learning middle school in our district. We adopted PBL last spring and are excited about the partnership with our feeder elementary school, Olander School of Project-Based Learning, and the hands-on learning that has taken place thus far. We have the great opportunity to provide a K-8 educational journey for our students based in PBL.
Our after-school program, Bruin Club, provides students with free access to extracurricular activities, tutoring, snacks, and transportation home four days a week. We are the only middle school in our district to provide this resource. It has been an absolute game-changer for our families and supports between 50-75 students each day.
Blevins and Preston are the only middle schools to house an Affective Needs (formerly known as SED) Program in our district. This program guarantees educational access for students with emotional disabilities in an inclusive environment. We are so proud of our AN staff and its amazing students!
Listening sessions are taking place to share your thoughts about the district's planning, including its impact on Blevins, to the steering committee. I encourage you to attend one of these to share what you feel are essential elements of Blevins for the committee to consider as they make their recommendations to the Board of Education in May. Please feel free to join me and other Blevins staff at Rocky Mountain High School on Monday, from 6-8pm, for the committee's listening session. More sessions are taking place now. Please check this newsletter for other dates.
Thanks for your continued partnership and belief in Blevins!
CONGRATULATIONS
