Roanoke Sound
It separates the central Outer Banks from Roanoke Island.
The importance of estuaries
Estuaries are important in several ways. They supply economic, cultural and ecological benefits to communities. Also, they deliver fundamental life-support processes upon which all organisms depend.
Plants and Animals
Some of the animals are shellfish, oysters, blue crabs, grass shrimp, and clams. Some of the plants are the black needlerush, and cordgrasses.
rivers, streams, or waterways that feed into the sound
I couldn't exactly find anything that fed right into the sound, but the closest one would be the Alligator River.
Threats to Estuaries
They are harmed by changes to the land that borders or surrounds them. Also, they are harmed by the contamination of ocean and river water.
